Am I a slow loser???
VSG on 04/24/12
I've seen so many people lost 20 pounds in the first month. I've lost only 13 pounds since surgery . Does this mean I'm a slow loser? I lost about 65 pounds on the supervised diet and I lost 13 pounds on the pre-op diet. I really thought because my BMI was so high I would have lost more. I do under 50 carbs and I'm around 500-600 calories a day. I haven't exercised like I should. Maybe the exercise will pick me up to 20 pounds a month?????
You had surgery at 272 and your goal is 160? Unless your goal is in the overweight/obese range, your BMI isn't that high. You are a relative lightweight compared to a lot of people - and probably compared to the people who lost more.
One of the most dangerous paths to go down (especially early on) is to start comparing yourself to other people. The only thing you can control is the quality and quantity of what you eat, how much water you drink, and how much you move. The scale will do it's own thing. Exercise - generally speaking - burns relatively few calories - it's not going to give you a magic boost to lose a substantial amount of weight ( for example, if you workout for an hour, maybe you will burn 600 calories and even if you did that 7 days a week 600x 7 = 4,200 cal burned which is barely over a lb a week).
Just follow your plan, be patient, and you will lose weight.

I know it's a no no to compare...lol but I'm an Accountant. That's what I do...lol compare things all day long...debits and credits
Your right though...I guess I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. 160 would put me at overweight. Normal would be 140. I just want to get to 160 first and see how I feel and than go for 140 if I feel like it.

Your pre-op weight is close to what I weighed at surgery. I only lost 18 pounds that first month and now, 9 months later I am down 100 pounds. 13 pounds might not seem like a lot but it is and even if you hit that dreaded 3 week stall, the scale will start moving down again.
Most people dont lose 20 pounds a month ... maybe the 1st month but not after. As long as you keep following your diet plan, you will keep losing weight. Try to be patient, you are not even 1 month out ... you will get there!
Best of luck to you.

acb is right. Different people lose weight at different rates. Besides, your body is still recovering and trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Just keep doing what you're doing on your diet, start moving and drink your water. You'll start to lose weight. You did a great job on the supervised & Pre-op diets!
