For The NEwbies - An Example of when to NOT Freak Out and get depressed
Thanks for posting. Helps me realize that I am not the only one, and that I need to relax! I am at 211, made a mistake of weighing myself that night, and was 209. So the next morning when I weighed I was sad to see 211 again! I know it's not fat, but same as you, probably needing a good bowel movement.
Rob, I'm so glad you posted this today!
You may have seen my post this morning on mfp, but I too saw a gain this morning, and I was less than a pound away from Onederland before that! Needless to say I was pretty frustrated.... lol. My body doesn't seem to like to let me hit goals either.
In my case, I'm 99% sure that most of the gain is sodium, as I had ham at three meals (just kinda worked out that way) and didn't get to make it to the gym yesterday like I knew I needed to. Really, now that I think of it that way, I should probably be happier that I didn't see a bigger gain than I did. Hmm...
Great food for thought.

Monday is my weigh-in day and it never fails I gain on Tues and Wed. At the beginning it stressed me out but now I know the drill. I gain 2lbs on those 2 days then lose it all plus some by the weekend. Like you said, if you know you haven't been eating poorly then really there is no way you can gain so no reason to stress!

I usually pick up 2-3 pounds when I travel. Even though the caloric intake is similar to home, there's more eating out which tends to be higher in sodium, which helps retain water, and with a different workout routine, hydration levels are altered from normal. But within 2-3 days of returning home, things are back on original trend.

I am one of those freaker-outers....lol! In fact, the closer I am to goal, the more I freak out (you 'd think I'd be used to the ups and downs by now but alas....). Anyway, thank you for the reminder. Your resolute attitude and incredible self-discipline are things I always try to emulate.

In maintinece I literally go up and down 2 to 4 lbs almost every day, my "normal" is between 152 and 155, but I can go from 155 to 152 over night and from 152 to 155 in the same amount of time. I don't pani****il it goes above or below those numbers. I know it's hard to keep that in focus at the start, but it IS going to happend and it's going to become a normal part of your life.
