PICS 2 years Out & Feeling Grand + Advice!
Hi Everyone!
July 26th will make 2 years of living with my VS. I've had both ups and downs, but my ups far outway my downs. I went from a size 16/18 women's to a size 5/7 Juniors. This year I will be 30 years old. Two years ago I looked at myself, a 27 year old, single, childless female with a BMI of 41, consistent chest pains due to an enlarged heart (courtesy of my weight), and a new diagnosis of diabetes. Enough was enough and I'm so glad I realized my health was spinning downward and I had to do something. I have to be honest I don't frequent this board enough and I should because many of us have experiences that could serve of some help to someone going through the same things. So tid bits of advice:
1. Excercise. Why? BECAUSE YOU NEED TO. You'r surgery is just a starting point. You need to maximize its intent by doing your part.
2. STAY HYDRATED. To this day, I am gulity of this. I have passed out on 2 occassions, the most recent being in D.C where the temp outside was 104. Both times I was rushed to the hospital for dehydration. Please please drink your water. Not just your tea, not your gatorade, not your smoothie. YOUR WATER.
3. Follow the rules. Sure you're going to mess up every now and them, but don't make it a habit. 2 years out and I still take my vitamins, watch what and HOW I eat (no eating and drinking at the same time), and shy away from overeating. Yes, you can still overeat.
4, Embrace your new life and appreciate that you've basically been given a new one. Don't take it for granted. There are hundreds that are hoping, wishing, and waiting to have another chance at a healthy life via surgery and HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of others who don't even have the money/insurance to get basic health care. To whom much is given much is required.

Last week in D.C. with my fellow nurses!

Many blessing to those waiting, those recoverving and those workin' the heck out of their sleeves! Love you guys and please feel free to ask any questions. My next step is to look into getting my tummy fixed :(. I have quite a bit of skin there that I just can't get rid of.

Great job! Enjoy those blessings and the new ones that are coming your way.

“Not many of us are living at our best. We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains. The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills. We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence. What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb. What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.? JRM
