That is actually great news! 30% of people who lose weight rapidly following gastric surgery develop gallstones and need another surgery to remove their gall bladders. You're getting a 2-fer.

I'm talking to my GP next week about going on Actigall for the next year, which would drop my odds to about 3%.

Removing the gallbladder during surgery is actually a pretty common occurence, sometimes without planning to do so ahead of time. If you have gallstones, it's really better to go ahead and remove it now. You don't want it to get worse after surgery, when you are losing at a rapid weight and upping your chances of having even worse problems! Yep... definitely a good thing.

Good luck!

I had mine removed too, I don't know what the difference would have been but recovery went well for me. I actually had a hiatal hernia repaired too so I got a 3-fer... :) my doc said the same thing too, that it's common and we probably would of had to do it later.
Be thankful you get it all in one. You'll do great!

Good luck!
