You know u have to much food on your plate when.....

I been doing this for a while now........

Things get repetitive......

I can eyeball inside the narrow range pretty good.......

When your new at this it can be hard to determine your portions.....measure....measure....measure!!!!

I can pretty much tell from across the room what is about right...... my friends I eat with can tell how much is right for me to eat.......

Another non-conventional way to find out if you have to much food on your plate........

A proper VSG portion takes about 30 seconds to heat refrigerated food in a regular size Microwave.......

Not fool proof..... but works out more times than not !!!

You are like my Mr Miyagi of VSG. Thanks for all the helpful hints and the kicks in the tush when we need it.  I already have my scale ready for when I will be eating solid food again :) But I will for sure keep this in mind.  Thank you Frisco!

Wow!  You hit your goal in 11 months!  Congrats!  That is great!

I have measured everything since getting the LapBand and plan to continue measuring!  I think it helps to have smaller plates and bowls!

Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months!  My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12!  I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve!  Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!

I loved the microwave tip. It's become sort of a joke at my house...if it takes more than 30 seconds to reheat, you've got TOO MUCH food!

I have some small plates to make foods look pretty and for casual reheating some Nuk plastic baby bowls. I have gotten pretty good at dishing out the right portions first time, but I still weigh them.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

Very cool rule of thumb. I have a food scale and will be measuring my portions, but the microwave trick will probably come in handy, too.

Haha, Frisco you made me laugh . I made a mini meatloaf, which weighs in at about 1.5 ounces. I stuck it in the microwave yesterday for 2 minutes and it exploded (in all fairness I thought it was still partially frozen). This is the 2nd time I've exploded something in the microwave since I had the surgery. The first time it was pureed peas and it was much messier. Thanks for the advice!

I love that this works for others, too.  I also bought toddler bowls that are pba free, microwaveable, etc.  If it doesn't fit in that bowl, it isn't fitting in my stomach.

Lunch time is so much fun b/c while everyone else is waiting 4-6 minutes to heat their frozen meal, I throw my frozen meatloaf mini muffin in the microwave for 30 seconds and am done.  Leaves much more time for a nice walk or people watching.

I love the microwave tip... thanks Frisco!
I always weigh and measure my food, and I always put 30 seconds in the microwave when I reheat stuff. Sometimes it's too long, but it's always at least long enough. I can never ask my husband to reheat something for me, because no matter what he always puts it in for too long!

hey good idea Frisco. even with my junky old cheap microwave it ought to be enough. No wonder i blow up stuff sometimes.

i also deal with portions by having a potter friend make me a bunch of little custom sized bowls that hold a cup or less so i can have the right portion, and they are stoneware so they microwave well.   diane
