Post Op Day 4 Update
Ok so Monday was my surgery day. I had both my sleeve done and gall bladder removed. Everything went will with surgery from what I am told. I woke up from surgery in pain. I was very very tired of course but still was requesting meds. In the hospital that night when the nurse was walking the halls with me I was in so much discomfort and pain I was crying to her because she said they couldn't give me anything else. It sucked, but it got better. Basically it was the cramping of what I assume is my sleeve and partially my esophagus seemed to cramp as well.
The next day might have been a little better although they took me off the pain pump around noon or so to start me on liquids. That kind of ticked me off because I was still in a lot of pain, but I guess they made it sound like I had no choice. That night was more discomfort and cramping of my abdomen just basically very very uncomfortable. I got about two med cups of protein drink down (I think 10 teaspoons it is?). Needless to say I ended up staying another night which I was very very thankful for. I had to be switched from the loritab (vicodin liquid) to oxycodone liquid because my new tummy just wasn't handling that well. The oxycodone was much easier on my tummy. I slept most of that night.
The next morning (Wednesday) I could tell I was feeling a bit better. The pain had lessened some at least it wasn't constant . I still wasn't getting the protein in like I should. I asked what my goal was to go home and I needed to get 5 med cups down so I did it because at that point I was ready to get out of that uncomfortable hospital bed. All this time my incisions were also quite sore and the cramping was still an issue, however, it was lessening. That night I slept at my parents house it was ok not a terrible night. Rested mostly yesterday and took a long mid day nap. Last night I came home to my house because I felt comfortable. By the end of the day yesterday had drank about 16 + ounces of liquids - not for lack of trying because I did sip all day. Approximately 35 grams of protein.
Today hasn't been too bad. I made a small trip to the store because I have been having the stomach growling acid stuff going on that has been very uncomfortable since yesterday and the doctor wanted me to get some Prilosec OTC. I got some of that and grabbed some Vitamin Water Zeros to help me get my electrolytes that I need as well. The trip to the store definitely zapped me of energy and I was pretty sore after that but glad I made it (with 5 year old son in tow and thankfully he pushed the small cart).
I am starting to feel better each day which I am so very thankful for. Day 1 and 2 post op were not pretty. I knew I would eventually be happy with my choice but I was just kind of miserable. Now I am doing better, supposed to go back to work Monday, not too sure about that, but thankfully a desk job. I am mostly just thirsty and nothing seems to quite hit the spot but citrus drinks like lemon, lime and orange have mostly been what I am craving. I am trying to get my protein in already have 20 grams in the bag today so hopefully will achieve that. Otherwise I am hanging in here and already getting excited for what's to come. I am just trying to listen to my body and find ways to get what I need during the day.
I know that this might make newbies leary, but it's just my account and many others have had a much easier time. Regardless, I am happy I had the surgery and I know everything will get better but it's going to be a process like anything else. Right now I am just trying to take care of me.
