I wouldn't come to s support group to find excuses, that would be lame lol. It is nice to know what people have experienced, which is the only reason why I asked. And, I must say, I have learned new things that I never heard of before.

Thanks for your input

From my almost two years here I have heard of someone having terrible stomach pain which lead to vomiting. I also remember someone saying that their surgeon had someone attempt a cheeseburger and ended up in the er--busted the staple line.

I know you want an answer but just think about this, you have thousands of titanium staples and a swollen tummy. What do you think could happen? Some people do cheat and nothing happens. It isnt worth mentioning because its a bad risk to take.

The time to cheat is not during the early post op days. --Not that you will.

I know the basic stuff my surgeon tells about consequences, I came to look for the actual experience responses that the surgeon does not tell about. I have heard stories about people eating hot dogs and it became lodged in the sleeve and they had to be cut open to get it out, and I didn't hear that story here, or in any support group. I like the fact that I can know more info to pass along to people I know outside of hear, to help keep them on track, just as I am on track. But I did want to know for all stages.

I believe there is a lot of variation in post op eating plans.  Some say clears for a week or longer, some (like mine) say full liquids the day you go home from the hospital then 2 weeks full liquids, weeks 3&4 are puréed, followed by soft foods.  So while eating puréed stuff on week 3 is not part of the plan your surgeon uses, it is part of mine.  Based on this information, I don't think eating puréed food on week 3 is life threatening.  But I do believe that everyone should stick with the plan that their surgeon advises, or if you wonder why it varies from others ask why.   Good luck :)

I agree my surgeon says advance as u tolerate foods! I'm on week three soft foods and I can handle ground chicken but mashed potatoes sit in me like a brick!

I agree. I see many people on here that are only on clears for 3 or 4 days, then full liquids for 3 more days, then muchies, and I can have mushies during week 3, for 2 weeks, then solids. But furing mushies, I can have fish and chicken as long as it is blended or minced and wet, but some people can't even have chicken at all until stage 4. It is strange about the variences in plans, but everyone is different and people that would seem to be cheating, really are not, but I would still not eat pureed Wendy's chilli for mushy stage.

I am still Pre op revision from Band to Sleeve. I find this thread very interesting. The Vets are clearly giving you the answer. The worst case scenario is death. You break your fragile suture line have a leak, get peritonitis and die. I am not sure why the frustration with wanting more info. You know the risks. Best case, you have discomfort. I think we all push limits, but when I got my Band, I decided I would follow those instructions to the letter! This is my life and my health. Cheating post op is just pain stupid. I don't think you need a vet to tell you the details. Perhaps there is so few that ever cheat, you may not get the vivid horror story you are seeking.

I wasn't looking for anything vivid. Just real experiences, I never said I was looking for horror

No, you certainly didn't ask for horror stories, but one other person did. I was mainly responding to that person.

I am from the same program you are, so I know the resources available to you.

I would ask this a different way - Are you attending any of the support groups?  Especially the Nashville Main group on the second Tuesday of very month?  Also the evening support groups hosted by Dr. Livengood on Monday nights are quite good too (There are three, Open; Tools; Back On Track).

I would advise you to go to these regularly.  These kinds of answers are provided, both by patients and Kathy and Dr. Livengood.  Especially early out I would recommend going to every one of these you can make.  Even the Back On Track group - you will get tools and tips for staying on track.
