Normal to be eating fav. meals as a break up?

as long as my insurance gives approval, I'm scheduled to have my surgery 2 weeks from today!!! My diet has been great, but now that i'm getting closer, I am eating the sh** out of my favorite foods because I know I'm not going to be able to eat them again (bacon egg and cheese, grilled cheese, nachos, ect). It's like im breaking up with my favorite foods, so I'm having them one last time lol Anyone else do this? I know once i get the official approval (hopefully by thurs!) that I'll cut this behavior out, but right now I'm being a little excessive.

In the 2 months before the start of my pre-op diet, I gained 5 pounds and ate out probably 3 meals per day. I had MAJOR food funerals. It wasn't pretty, it was ugly. I wish I hadn't, but you know what? I did and I'm not ashamed of it. I think it was part of my own process of letting go.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just telling you that you're not alone.

It didn't sabotage my pre-op diet though. I was 100% compliant and have been since surgery (I have so much to lose that there's been 3 times in the process I put myself into maintenance to get a mental break, but that's different than the gorging I did before LOL)

I didn't have to have a pre op diet which made it harder to not have them because I didn't have to worry about gaining any weight. However, I didn't go too crazy and I didn't gain a pound. I would just find myself eating the crap I don't want to eat anymore like poptarts, White Castle, a Big Ma**** cream w/ toppings just not everyday, every meal. I know a lot of people say you shouldn't but in a way I'm glad I did. I got it out of my system and I don't miss them (well, a frosted strawberry poptart still does sound good!).

This is a fairly normal behavior.  The night before you start your liquid pre-op you will probably have a last meal.  Its funny, but now on the other side I see it for what it really was - relying on food for emotional support, and abusing food.  I actually find the "last meal" thing slightly offensive.

Take my word for it, after surgery you can still love food.  You will still have favorite foods.  You will still eat.  You may find that your tastes change.  I frequently tell people that I love food now more than I ever did before.  I can now taste the natural goodness in food, appreciate its textures and aromas more.

Once you start getting a good grip on the mental issues, and food becomes fuel and not a crutch, food actually becomes better!

The day before my two-week liquid diet, I had some of the best homemade pizza my wife ever made. I ate a lot of it.

jus****ch out that the last few days before the surgery you take it easy. your liver gets fatty very, very fast if you pound foods that are high in fat more than your body can process, it goes directly to your liver and is stored there. If your liver is enlarged, it makes the laproscopic procedure more difficult for your doc.

So I say pound away like a soldier while you can, just make the finish line 4-5 days prior and clean up your act then... from my experience, the last days pre-op should be clean foods, small portions, wrapping up in a one-day liquid deal. Just my 2c.
