I'm i no way implying that I'm going to have a drink- im 3 weeks out- that's just  crazy. I know there are other threads on here about this but it's farther back than i'm finding- how long after surgery did you have your first alcoholic drink?

9 months...I think. I might have went a little crazy with the ****tails on a cruise.

And it was the most painful thing I did - burned me to death!!!!  But hey - all in the spirit of vacation.  (ie i dont recommend it - totally not worth it)

I think I was about 10 weeks out, I had a glass of wine, it didn't sit well and I felt like crap. I tried it again around six months out and was fine.

I had surgery August 14th and my birthday Aug 30th, I asked my surgeon if I could have a drink for my birthday and he said one or two was ok.

Damn, I'd fire my surgeon if he said I could alcohol 2 weeks after cutting out my stomach. Then again, the last thing I would have wanted 2 weeks out was alcohol.

My surgeon is one of the more conservative ones I've seen on these boards in regards to alcohol - he recommends never drinking again. That being said, he understands that may be impractical. His policy is absolutely NO alcohol for the first year after surgery. After the first year he says if you find yourself unable to stop at 1 drink, he strongly recommends not drinking at all due to risks of transfer addictions.

Last weekend, I had my first drink.  I'm 4 months out.

Really didn't do much for me and it kind of burned, but that might have been the horseradish and black pepper in the bloody mary.  I was a rare drinker before surgery (like 1 drink a month), so I think I'll be uninterested for the most part.

I had my first drinks this past week while at a conference in beautiful Naples, FL.  My drink of choice is strawberry daiquiris.  Although I didn't really get buzzed, the drinks were really sweet.  Though I ate really healthy the whole week, I gained 4 lbs!  It had to be the drinks!  I am 3 months out.
