Reflux

Hey guys...looking for some insight. Im about  a year and 1/2 out from getting my sleeve and doing fantastic! Have managed to maintain 133lbs quite easily :) My concern is this- I have had the worst reflux! It started shortly after surgery, but it seems like over the year and 1/2 it has progressively gotten worse. Now its to the point I am basically vomiting in my sleep- it wakes me up! It comes out my mouth and my nose! I know it sounds gross, sorry! But waking up to large quantities of frothy stuff coming out my nose is really bugging me! And then I feel like Im choking! And then coughing all night! I take Protonix daily- and certainly if I miss a dose my heart burn during the day is considerably worse! But Im wondering if there are 2 separate issues going here. Any advice?!?!?!

That doesn't even sound right,  I would go see my surgeon ASAP !!!      not sure what that could be but it sounds scary......   hoping a quick and easy cure for you

I'm still new to the sleeve, but I know that reflux is common.  You may do better on a different medication and in addition to that, it helps to place a wedge under you mattress to elevate your head.

I am having the sleeve in about a month.  I read about reflux all the time.  Did most of you have reflux  before or is this from the surgery?   Did you have your surgery in the US or Mexico?  What I have read many are from the Mexico surgery.

It's a problem that is well documented in the medical literature, especiallyfor people who had reflux before surgery.

I had that type of reflux when I had the lap band. Had it replaced along with a hiatal hernia repair. Still had the problem. Only fixed when I had the lap band removed. I am very aware of this issue still though because after reading about it, I found you can actually end up with esophageal cancer if you let it continue too long. You might have developed a hernia....

I am pre-op, but have reflux, and like the other said, worsening reflux is a side effect, as is improved reflux.  For some who had no reflux, it comes at about year 3.

Talk to your doc about another medicine.  Protonix does NOTHING for me.  I took prilosec, which helps, and now take Nexium, which is great.  Other people find that different medications help them as well.

Pariet 20mg twice a day was my saving grace!! Still taking it at 4+ years out!! Thinking it will be a lifetime thing now!

You don't need to see your surgeon about this - you need to get to your GP ASAP. Reflux that bad is serious business and requires a doctor's input and most likely a prescription. Don't waste time talking to us - call your doctor TODAY.

:) thanks for all the info guys!!! I knew I would get lots of feedback! lol  I actually didnt have reflux at all before surgery, and I had my hernia repair during surgery. But I guess a call to my GP is in order...just another thing to add to the "to do" list! :) thanks guys!
