I've seen a few people here and one of my friends that used a different doctor and they were required to do a bowel prep before surgery.  Not quire sure I want to know what that is, but it was never mentioned by my doctor.  Anyone else out here not have to?  I'm hoping they just didn't forget to tell me.

That's not in my instructions.  I'm just on clear and full liquids today through midnight and can take only my BP med tomorrow morning.

It's just an enema.  I didn't need to for this surgery, but for a different abdominal surgery several years ago, I had to.  'S not that bad.

I was liquids 2 weeks prior, clear liquids day before and at 3 & 6 the day before I had to drink half a bottle of magnesium citrate, to flush out the system, it's by the stool softeners.

Good Luck with surgery!

I had one, it wasn't an enema tho, for mine I drank something called "go lightly" which isn't true, lightly is so not true. It wasn't horrid tho just plan to spend some time in the bathroom, take reading material cause you'll be there for awhile. It just cleans you out good!

I had no pre op diet - just liquids the day before surgery BUT I did have to drink 3 bottles of magnesium citrate that day - wow - that was awful - I still had diarrhea the day of surgery and I had a 90 min drive to get there - not easy but I survived. Good luck and for your sake - hope you don't have to do a bowel prep.

It's the same stuff they give you to clean you out for colonscopies.  My doc said it wasn't necessary because they're not operating on our guts, just our stomachs.  But some surgeons require it anyway.  So, if they haven't mentioned it, you're ok!
