Hi! I was hoping some of the vets here could recommend a good stool softner. I can go every 3-4 days but it it very "hard"(sorry TMI) and wishing it was a bit softer. I just started my pureed diet on Wednesday. I don't start soft foods until 1.5 weeks from now.

are there any soft foods that may help as well? thank you in advance.

I am like you.  I use smooth tea; you can buy it at any drug store. You make yourself a cup of tea and let the bag steep in the ho****er for about 5 minutes and the next you will not have the problem anyone. I had tried all kinds of softeners and suppositories etc nothing worked but this does.  Good luck!

Sorry your pipes are stopped up!  Here's what I've been doing -- don't laugh!  I make Miralax Koolaid.  Instead of mio and Crystal light, I drink SF KoolAid with Spenda and Miralax!  I don't make a full dose for every 8 oz glass, though-- its probably 4 doses in a gallon.  So I'm constantly taking in a low dose of Miralax -- and boy, if I put too much in, or drink a lot (or both), I know to cut back a little!

I don't put in my Kool Aid at work (that could get tricky), just the pitcher I have at home.

I also puree low carb veggies and mix in with my pureed meat.  I measure out the meat first, then toss a tbs or two of the veggies in -- they also help keep the meat moist.  I've also had some beans mixed in there too, but since they are more carby, I keep an eye on them!

Good luck, she said as she sucked down another bottle of Miralax KoolAid (today's flavor is grape!)

I took Duloclax stool softeners every day twice a day for 15 months and it kept things soft even when i got super constipated.

Now, Ive switched to a rx laxative that works to help keep me going and acts as a stool softener.

Questions:

Is this something that is experienced right after the surgery? I currently go everyday with no issues. My surgery is 12/12/12.

Who makes the smooth moves tea?

Everyone must find his or her own "poop ****tail"! I tried several different things and combinations of medicines/remedies before finding one that worked for me. I am a year out next week and still take a generic Dulcolax in the morning and at bedtime with a dose of generic Miralax in my morning protein coffee. The nice thing with the Miralax is that I can adjust the dose up and down as needed.

I was a very regular - every day - guy prior to VSG. Now, post VSG,  if I don't take my "****tail" in a few days I end up trying to pass the Rock of Gibraltar- seriously it can get bad.

The only "natural" remedy that worked for me was prune juice. However, I didn't much care for the taste and the calories and carbs worried me early out, so I went the chemical route instead.

This is my last day of full liquids (stage 2).  Since the Unjury Chicken Soup protein -- my staple -- doesn't have fiber in it, with my nutritionist's blessing I've been adding Metamucil Clear & Natural to each serving and have also been mixing it into my clear liquids.  By doing that the last couple of days I've met or exceeded the daily fiber requirement established for me on My Fitness Pal, at least, so fingers crossed.  :)

My nutritionist said that that's why my surgeon's practice doesn't recommend the Unjury to patients:  that lack of fiber.  Adding the Metamucil or whatever evens that score, however, especially since I've been able to exceed my clear liquids requirement for days now.  That helps, too!

I had quite the opposite problem in the days immediately postop, FWIW.

I really have to say...this is my curse!!!

All is wonderful and great...except this!

When I was clr liq...it was liq colace ( tasted like rat poison...seriously), then at puree...it was baby food prunes. that actually worked well for a time. I did have Milk of Mag once at that time...I'll spare you the details...but it worked ( but that is my emergency med...I can't take that on a regular basis). Up until this week I was doing senna S once a day..and then twice a day. Everything, for me worked for a while...then it wouldn't. yesterday i too started with Miralax...we'll see

About a month ago I posted a thread abt SNL's commercial parody..."Colon Blow"...I'd love to get my hands n some of that!! LOL!!

Here's to keeping things moving!!

Mineral Oil is sold in the same section of the store as the other "movers". It's as cheap as can be and one teaspoon should do it for you. It has NO flavor but the texture isn't pleasant so immediately wa**** down with something.
