Will I ever get to use a straw again?

Just curious.  I think I'm more consistent at getting my water intake when I can sip it that way, vs out of a cup.  Plus, there are all those great double wall cups that keep stuff cold!  Sounds stupid, but I miss my cups.

Thanks!

My doctor said no straws, no pop.  I have kept his rules.

My surgeon said that I can use whatever utensils I want, including a straw. He said that essentially I am "normal" in every way, just with a smaller stomach. I can do whatever I want to do and the success with the weight loss depends entirely on the food and exercise choices I make. Straws do not hinder weight loss. If drinking through a straw makes you take in too much air and maakes you uncomfortable then don't do it. If it doesn't make you uncomfortable then no problem. Just make sure its water you are drinking through that straw!!! Not coke or sprite!

I started using a straw about a month out. No issues with it and it helped me get my fluids in. My surgeon was fine with it. There have been a number of posts on here where peple mention that they too use straws without issues.

I use straws when out and have never had a problem. Every person and or cir****tance is different so don't rely on everything you read on here. Only by trying something will you know if it works for you.

I use the CamelBak Eddy waterbottle -- it has a straw, but it has a bite valve, so you are not sucking up air every sip.  I used it from the time I got home from the hospital, and my doc is fine with it, since the whole point of not using straws is not sucking in air with every sip.

You can get them at REI or on Amazon.  Best money I ever spent.  I have one for home and one for work.

I used a straw from day one and have been fine. Echoing what others have said...if you find you DO take in too much air and it makes you uncomfortable, don't do it. If you try it and you're fine, I'd say you have the green light. I think many of these suggestions are just that..suggestions. We are all different and have varying experiences. Don't get me wrong, some things are certainly hard and fast rules: nothing carbonated, the whole drinking rule...I think those can really impact loss and health.

There was a straw on my tray with the first fluids I was allowed after my surgery and I've used them since with no trouble. Try it, see if it works for you. If it does - great, if not - try again in a week or so.

I suck on the straw, stick my tongue to the end, puff the air out through my nose, then drink - no problems. Ou can also buy camelback water bottles with bite valve that totally avoid the sucking in air issue.

I've always used a straw even though my doc said not to. I don't get the point, honestly. I don't seem to swallow any air. Plus, I mean, I can still burp. Whatever, right? If your doc said not to, then don't, obviously ;)

But if it hurts, don't do it for sure.
