Getting tha****er in...
I'm 4 weeks post-op and really, really having a hard time getting in my water. Most of the day I'm sitting at my desk in front of the computer.
Today I tried a new approach, I set my Outlook reminder to take a sip of water. Then I hit "snooze" for every 5 minutes. As a result, I'm taking a sip every 5 minutes. I've already had 48 oz of water today!
You've probably seen me post this a zillion times -- but I LOVE my Camelbak (Eddy) water bottle. It has a bite valve straw so you don't suck in air. I've used it since the day I came home from the hospital. I have one at work and one at home -- and I can take a fairly decent sized drink -- and could pretty soon after surgery.
You can get them at REI or on amazon. I tote it around everywhere at work, to meetings, etc. It's great! It's 20 oz (16 with ice in it) - - and I usually refil it 3 times before lunch and 3 times after with sugar free KoolAid, tea, water, etc. I would never get in my water without it!
i got the camel bak eddy also , I am pre op and using it to train myself to sip instead of gulp
my nut says right after surgery they prefer you to use a 1 oz cup so that you know exactly how much you drinking and don't drink to much or to fast
by the way I bought it at good will while cloths shopping for 89 cents , it was missing the straw but I found one around the house that fit , IU love it
I just got a thermos with a copy of the bite valve that 12 oz that is good for hot stuff( soup, tea)
Funny how different surgeons ans nuts are!! My surgeon told me the "straw theory" was a myth so I've used mine all along. I can't put my mouth on a glass. Was taught from a young age - VA stuff! So I've used a straw all my life and was panicking if they wouldn't let me use it. I've had no gas problems at all. So go figure. I just use plain straws no fancy ones.
I've found that I drink more when I drink from a straw and have not had any gas issues with doing so, so I always drink from a straw now! Sad, but I use my son's straw sippy cups right now, I need to get some grown up ones!
