Splenda question

I've read recently that Splenda should be avoided for weight loss. I thought I was doing good not having sugar and now this! I'm confused. Vets chime in please.

My NUT told me that any artificial sweetener was fine. I use Sweet N Low because that's what my mom used in her coffee for YEARS. (Call me nostalgic lol) Where did you hear this? Bariatric patients generally aren't supposed to have much sugar, so we substitute. Granted, you don't want to suck down an entire package of sweeteners, but you get the idea. lol

Ugh, I hope not because I used splenda every day. I tried the mong fruit thing and it didn't do it for me.

There is a lot of controversy around Splenda and it could be just hype. I try to stick mostly to stevia but for cooking or baking Splenda is more cost effective and acts more like sugar. There seems to be a lot of praise for Erithrytol and there is a baking version called Swerve. I haven't tried it yet but sounds ver promising. I do know you should stay away from nutrasweet and saccharin that's Equal and Sweet n low.

It's not that hard. Splenda and Stevia are commercially available now so you can get a big bag fairly cheap at any grocery store. Costco has the gigundous bags of stevia for like $15. Erythritol is not expensive but doesn't go as far.

My personal opinion is what ever the scientific experts say this week, they will say the opposite next week, month or year...  Whether it is on weight loss, what causes cancer, how much to exercise, or anything.

I think we have to use logic and do what works for us.  If you are using splenda and losing weight - there is your answer.  I use some splenda, love truvia, and will use the other stuff if I have to from time to time.  I believe the key to any of it is moderation - if you go crazy with anything you have problems - there is such a thing as too much of a good thing!

I avoid all artificial sweeteners and sugar.  I havent always done so, but after reading so much about them, I stay away as much as possible.  Mainly because it makes me crave the real thing and that it can give you an insulin spike.
