How much time off work did you need?

I'm considering VSG and I'm wondering how much time off of work you all needed? I'm a RN and work 12 hour shifts so I'm a little nervous about how much time I need to take off.

I am an RN also and have been wondering the same thing. My co-worker had it done already And is three years out. He said that he took two and a half weeks off. I'm doing all my classes slowly and pre op stuff so I can accrue as much PTO as I can before I go through with it

I had surgery on Wed, so three days that week and two weeks following. Reality is I could have been back after the first full week...

I took a week, all I do is sit at a desk, but was very tired the second week and only worked 6 hours before I had to go home and take a nap.

I know RN's work very hard and non-stop so my suggestion would be at least two weeks. Three if you can.

I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work the following Wednesday and that was only because there was a weekend and Christmas in there.  I have a desk job though and was tired when I got home.

Considering you are on your feet for almost the entire 12 hours, I would at least take 2-3 weeks off.  Also remember that you can not lift for 6-8 weeks.

Everyone is different, and this Friday it will be my third week being off. I am just starting to feel normal and have energy. I would check with your doctor also, I am taking six weeks off since I have a very stressful job not physically.

Thank you for all of your responses!  I'm calling the surgeon's office this morning to get more information. Wish me luck!
