Having Rough time

I was in the ER again a week ago Thursday ...hmmm....I was vomiting...so much that I was bringing up stomach acid  or bile as they put it..  All I wanted was to stop dry heaving..   and they put me through the wringer again... forcing me to swallow this nasty contrast dye ...yet again.  I told them I'm too nauseous...and throwing up...so they stood like they were sargents in an army...and made me have this N.G. tube put down my throat... well that turned out bad.... it caused bleeding in my esophagus.  So they slowly took that out...and like it or not made me swallow that awful stuff.

Good news was surgery site was okay...and no blockage..

Now they were going to say go home....(unofficially...continue to puke)....I got a back bone...as my shrink would say...and said no you are not sending me home this way...something has to be done....well...the surgical team took turns manipulating me....but they finally gave me a prescription for what was really wrong!   Turned out...the surgeon Dr. Mamazza...classified it as GASTRITIS... or in my case...G.A.V.E.  (Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia)....bleeding in my stomach...   So off they send me home...to puke for another 2 days.... I was instructed to stay on liquids for 3 days...  I couldn't even get all my meds down me. Like they say the cure is worse than the ailment....but, they have given me Sucralate 1 gram...4 times a day....to coat the stomach / digestive lining to help lesions heal.

I cried a lot last week and prayed allot   last Saturday at home from the pain and nausea...... .but...i'm starting to feel better and putter around and sort through stuff that needs to be thrown away or donated.

I pray your journey is going smoother than mine...  I pray that I am not getting malnourished...I find I can only handle pureed foods like chicken and slow cooked beef.... and mainly I eat SMOOTHIES.

GOD BLESS

THANKS FOR THE FORUM....

Too bad they didn't give you some zofran or something to help stop the vomitting then determine what was next.

I'm sorry you had such a rough time, my heart goes out to you! Stay strong

Sorry you are ill, I have the same diagnosis.  I am told Carafate, but I need to look into Sucralate 1 gram, never heard of it and I hate Carafate because of ingesting aluminum. I have been throwing up and nausea for 3 of the 4 past months since my Sleeve surgery and my existence has been miserable to say the least.

Update - I just read that Sucralate 1 gram and Carafate are the same thing.  Mine is liquid, I need to try the tablets, those sound better.

I am so sorry you are having a tough time of it. Carafate (sucralste) is good stuff. It's inconvenient to take around your meds -especially calcium- but it works very well to heal stomach and intestinal tissue. Hopefully, you will be feeling completely well soon and be well on your way to goal.

As for your malnutrition worries: take your vites 2 hours after and before the Carafate and make sure you take protein shakes to meet your goals. Do that and you'll be doing all you can to meet your nutritional needs at this point.
Speedy healing!!!!!!!!
