Hi, my insurance excludes WLS. I am considering several options, but I'd like to have some input. Which credit cards, medical cards have you used? What type of loans? I have carecredit but my doc doesnt take it.   :(

Are you looking to have the surgery here or in Mexico?

Heres's a board that might help you;

I used CareCredit for most of it (paid cash for part of it too by dipping into savings).

SurgeryLoans.com is thrown around, but I don't know anything about them.

A personal loan from your bank/credit union. A credit card? Personal loan from family? Sell something? 401k?

I live in Illinois with no insurance and I will be having my surgery for free. My hospital Carle has this program called Community Care. If you meet their income requirements they will let you have the surgery for free. Me alone without the help of BF makes about $22k a year which isn't much and qualified for free.

My credit is fair and I was unable to get a personal loan. Got a loan through Prosper, a peer to peer lending site.

I got a loan through my credit union. I went to Mexico though, so the loan was only $8,000. I doubt they would have loaned me $28,000 to have it done here.

A lot of insurance companies exclude WLS, if I were you I would try filing an appeal, if it is medically necessary they may reconsider, it would be worth a try.

Mine excludes WLS, too.   We got a home equity loan for some needed repairs and added in the amount for my needed repair.  :-)
