I think you definitely want someone with you at least during the day. If you have pain you will want pain meds... I was able to self medicate and was on morphine and I was glad my hubby was there, when the dr came to see me he was able to ask questions and tell me later... I don't even remember that the dr came to see me. Also you really need to walk after surgery and when I did I got really nauseous, it was good to have someone to hold me up or get me a barf bag or call the nurse etc. if he wants to be supportive let him, you'll appreciate that support later. Even though the pain is gone, this is work and the liquid diet phase is tough, you need to drink enough and it's hard to do. At the same time you are weak cuz you are getting so few calories, you may need him to help you shower or wash your hair. Count your blessings that your hubby wants to be there. Maybe compromise and have him go home to sleep in a bed so he is not exhausted along with you.

Good luck... I'm only 1 week out of surgery, I've lost 9 lbs and I'm glad I did it, but its not easy. It's a bit of a roller coaster. My hubby is generally really supportive, but today he was kinda a butt head. I had a rough day and he really wasn't there for me... It has me really down... Be thankful for your hubby!

I had a pretty easy surgery, and found that I just wanted to sleep afterwards.  My hubby stayed with me for the first afternoon, and then I sent him home so he would be more comfortable.  If I had more pain or any complications, I might have wanted him there to advocate for me or support me.  But in my case, I just slept most of the first two days.  I got to go home after only one night.

Best of luck,

Carol

My husband and I both had the surgery. He went first and I did it 5 months later. I stayed with him and then he stayed with me. Your husband staying with you is not just for you, it is also for him. Assuming he loves you, he needs to know you are alright and he can only be sure of that if he is there to see for himself. Appreciate his caring heart and take him with you. When it is all over, be sure to let him know how much you appreciated him being there for you.

Best wishes for an easy surgery and speedy recovery.

I was the exact opposite of Shamrock - I didn't want anyone around me.   My hubby was there the day of surgery (Friday) but then I didn't have him come bac****il it was time to go (Sunday).  Kind of depends if you're an extrovert (draw energy from others) or introvert (draw energy from solitude).   Having a bunch of people around me when I'm low energy just depletes me more.   I just wanted to sleep, work on walking a lot, plan for what to do when I got home and not have an audience.  My brother and his family came up for 20 minutes and it wiped me out!

Very personal choice - and also depends upon the hospital you'll be at and how good the staff is.  I was at an excellent facility and had great care.

I think he should be with you during the day. You will want to sleep alot but i'm sure he wants to be with you. He should go home and get a good nights sleep though. You are going to need his help when you get out and so he should be well rested because you won't  be.

I dont want anyone one around.  I started this alone and I am gonna fini**** alone since I have gotten a lot of negative feedback.

This makes me so sad.  I have chosen to be very open about my surgery with family, friends and co-workers.  I cannot express how grateful I have been for all of the support.  Please know that there is a lot of support out there, even if you can't find it in your own circles.  Good luck and we are making the right decision for us!

We are sleeve sisters!  20th for me as well.  My husband will be there through surgery and then will head to the office for awhile.  He's going to check in on my throughout the day, but I also have my mom there, so he doesn't have to carry all the pressure.

Good Luck on Tuesday!!!
