Psych meds and new sleeve

So I take about15 different anti depressants and anti anxiety medications a day.  I've finally found the combination of pills that are helping tremendously.  My surgeon knows about all the meds and didn't have a problem with going ahead with the surgery, but I have to stop taking them before surgery for a few days and don't know when I can start them back up.  I'm also worried about how I will get all the pills down.  That's a lot of crushing.  Anyone else delt with this issue and is willing to share?

Talk to your surgeon about this. Stopping this sort of regimine cold-turkey can be dangerous. My surgeon ok'ed me to take pills from day 1 as long as they didn't give me heartburn.

does your bariatric centre have a pdoc?  you should be speaking with them about this.  a surgeon can't help you -- you need to speak to  your pdoc or the centres pdoc about this.

I know that for me I was taking all my medications in pill form before I left the hospital and have not had a problem since then. I can only speak to my experience but I know I have seen this to be true for MANY others on this forum as well.

I plan on talking to my psychiatrist about this next Tuesday.  She knows I was looking into WLS and said we may have to adjust my meds.  What I'm most worried about is not being able to swallow the pills.  I'm having a hiatal hernia repaired as well, so I imagine my ability to swallow will  be even worse

I had a hiatal hernia repaired with my sleeve, too. I was ok'd to take pill meds while I was still in the hospital.  Make sure your anesthesiologist is aware of your med regime so you have an optimal recovery. Also, post-op, they give painkillers when needed. Make sure the RN's and Dr are aware of the meds you are on if you need (and most of us did) pain medication for the first day or two.  Let your psych know that you'll be on a PPI to avoid ulceration in your new tummy and that your meds won't interact negatively with it. I use prilosec and haven't had any problem with taking my meds, but everyone is different.

I could take pills from day 1.  Talk to your surgeon.  Most psychotropics are not recommended to be crushed.  Speaking w/ your pharmacists wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I'm worried about the pain medication as well.  I'm allergic or have a bad reaction to most all oral pain meds.  About the only thing that works for me is IV drip Demerol and phenegren for nausea.  I also get very anxious coming out from being put under so I need anti anxiety meds as well.  I've had enough surgeries to know what works for me, but it's always a struggle with Drs and nurses not believing what works for me.  I know that's not what I posted about.  I kinda got off on a tangent

I take 4 different anti depressant and anti anxiety medications. I never had to stop them for the surgery. I just opened the capsules and swallowed what was inside them with a tiny swig of water. The pills I just crushed with a pharmacy pill crusher, mixed it with a little water in a cup, and down the hatchet it goes.  That's what my surgeon recommended pre and post op. Maybe that's an option?

The crushed up pills didn't make you nauseous? I'm worried about gagging them up.
