How Many Calories, Carbs, Protein, Fat?
Happy Sunday everybody. Can someone help? I don't know how many calories, fats, carbs or protein grams I am supposed to be eating per day. Since 12/9, I have eaten about 600-1000 calories, and about 80 grams protein and anywhere from 28-48 carbs per day. My nutritionist gave me a list of veggies, meats, cheese and fruits that I can eat, but not the nutritional value totals.

Most popular plan on the boards: 800 cals, less than 40 carbs, protein varies by size but a minimum of 60 (I did 110+), and fat is not really tracked other than the impact on calories.
Newly sleeved though, you calories in the first month would normally be a lot lower- 300-500ish
Low carb is not for everyone- if you have problems with your blood sugar going low adjust accordingly, or if it general that is not your thing adjust. I went higher carb after 2 months and ate 15 carbs at a snack and 30 at a meal, total of 6 meals a day. The point with managing carbs is to avoid your system getting flooded with insulin, which turns cals to fat and triggers cravings and hunger. Some need to go very low carb to avoid this cycle, others do better with a few more carbs.

Thank you HappyTeacher. I think I am on track. I am trying to not eat anything that I know is full of carbs. I had the carb monkey on my back for years, still do. LOVE them and I have decided to just go cold turkey on bread, potatoes, pasta and rice until I can control myself. I also have a real problem with portion control of carbs. So just not eating these things until I can have the will-power to eat them in moderation is working pretty well right now. Have a great day!

I totally agree with you about staying away from processed and highcarb foods. They are like a drug for me and abstinence is my best defense. Even with 70-100 grams of protein per day, just the carbs in veggies is enough for me. Oh, and i also manage a snack size natural unsweetened applesauce to help keep things regular. My surgeon's support people recommend 50 % of your daily intake from protein, the rest divided between carbs and fats. The carbs are the easiest to get in, the other two take planning.

Thanks Laura_g4, I think the 50% protein per day is a good guideline. I really have to work on my fat intake too. I have been eating some type of cheese each day and a pat of butter on my veggies some times, and I have been having unsalted dry roasted peanuts as a snack. I see something online called PB2 that I might try. It has less fat than peanuts and peanutbutter. This might help the fat intake.

mickeymantle, I hadn't even thought about fiber :( I have been doing well with my veggies but I haven't eaten any fruit except for that in my Greek yogurt. I bought some small pears on Friday and I am scared to eat them because they have 28 grams of carbs in them.

Fiber will not raise your blood sugar or muck with your insulin levels. Fructose will. Go for fruits low on the glycemic index. For fiber, my favorite two sources is Fiber One cereal (carefully measured, with 4 ounces of nonfat milk) or Fibergourmet Cinnamon crackers (70 cals, 4 g protein, 12 g fiber, 22 carbs- most of which though will not mess with your blood sugar levels). Fruits- mango, berries (especially strawberry) Veggies- green leafy, asparagus, brussel sprouts is my new love, non-starchy in general, cucumber, celery... all the usual suspects. It will also keep you regular.
