that we can have? Or are pretzels just a no all around? I found Newman's Own has a high protein pretzel, although it's still high in carbs. This is an ingredients list and nutritional facts list of the different types they make. Amazon sells them, but I don't want to buy 12 bags of them.

Hi. My surgeon told me I can have things with carbs as long as it has protein or fiber in it. I was told that when I start eating bread, I should make sure it's a high protein bread, but I never thought to ask what the protein/carb ratio should be. I haven't started bread and I'm not planning on it because bread was w weak spot for me before, but pretzels were not.

Kays naturals makes some that are very good.  I like the cinnamon toast version here http://www6.netrition.com/kays_pretzels_page.html but they also have a mustard version too.

They also hit my rule about protein too... be sure to check the nutrition profile...

I'd avoid carbs until maintence..especially if pretzels are a trigger food for you...

I would avoid bread and high carb foods as long as you can because you will quickly realize how easily and just how much you can eat of those things. Eat protein. When in need of crisp/crunch, bake parmesan into crisps...these are like homemade (way better) cheese its.

Someone posted on here a few weeks ago the first time they had a soft pretzel. They were at the mall, it was a small bite..and it sort of got stuck..she couldn't quite swallow it all the way down or cough it up. She's in public and she is having all these great gobs of slimey mucousy goo coming out of her mouth for over an hour because her body is trying to expel the food because it won't go down.

There is no pretzel or piece of bread that is worth that.  Most people don't even attempt bread/pretzels et****il at least 6 months post op and many regulate it to a 3-5 times per year thing once they have reached goal weight.  Why? Because protein first, always. You don't NEED bread or pretzels, you WANT it.  A big part of losing weight and keeping it off is learning the difference between need and want. It's a slippery slope and there are many posters on here that have regretted getting back on the carb train because it's hellish to detox from it again plus the weight gain and feelings of frustration and failure.

Just because you're doctor said it was cool, doesn't mean it won't create problems for you in your journey. He's not the one dealing with the carb monster and slimies, you are. Also..no fluid 1/2 hr before, during eating, or a 1/2 hr after. How are you going to choke down a wad of dough if you follow that rule?

I ate one bite of a roll during the holidays and I won't be doing that ever again. My system did not tolerate bread at all. Thankfully I was at home where I could take care of the situation. Also, I don't need the carbs. I have been keeping my carbs below 20 grams. It was really bad thinking on my part to have the roll. MAJOR EMBARRASSED FACE. good luck to you.
