Vsg/gout
Do you take a prescription for gout? I have not had a flare up, but I'm on Allopurinol to control my uric acid levels.

Gout...
I had several attacks (pre surgery) over the course of about 10-12 years. It runs in my family. My first attack landed me in the ER - begging them to cut my foot off... I really didn't know what was happening, but they diagnosed it correctly, gave me some anti-inflammatories, and I was good to go quickly. Over the next 10 years I had some milder attacks, which I usually could attribute to Travel+Lots of walking+getting dehydrated as the combo that would trigger it. But lots of people have different triggers...
I got to the point where I could self-diagnose and jumped on Naproxen (aleve) right away when symptoms started, and that handled it for me.
When researching the VSG, mostly on this forum, I found that many people have gout attacks right after surgery, and then they are ok long-term after that.
That has been my experience.
I spoke with my surgeon about it and they pre-cleared me to take liquid Naproxen post-surgery. I had the surgery, and a couple days later I felt the gout attack coming. I took the liquid naproxen, as little as I could to keep the symptoms away, and after a few days, I was fine.
It's been 20 months since that attack, and I have not had a recurrence. A much better record than pre-surgery.
