Colds and Comfort Foods

I've got a bad cold. I'll live, but holy hell is it messing with my head. I'm not even hungry, but all I can think about is comfort food, a grilled cheese sandwich in particular. I've stayed on plan, am getting my fluids in and sipping on low sodium broth with sriracha (I love that stuff) but this whole comfort food thing is just terrible.

So..this is where the head work comes in. Why am I craving this grilled cheese sandwich when I'm not even hungry? I hopped into the way, way back machine and lo and behold..whenever I was sick my mom would make me a grilled cheese sandwich and some tomato soup. I equate that meal with love and comfort and my mom, who I really miss since I moved to another state.

Part of my journey is learning new ways to soothe myself instead of eating. My Plan B is exercise, but since I'm sick I'm going to go to Plan C:  I'm going to take a hot shower, put on my favorite pair of soft jammies, snuggle up with my kitty and read myself to sleep. Boring, yeah, healthier than that grilled cheese sandwich? Totally.

I'm changing more than just my weight these days. This is a good thing

Oh, man. I LIVED on grilled cheese when I had Mono last year... I literally sat on the couch swathed in a blanket and re-enacted the moment on Big Bang Theory when Sheldon gets sick and pouts "I want grilled cheese!" I totally get it.

The sriracha will help clear up a head cold though! Feel better soon! (And know that, if it were me, I totally would have had the grilled cheese... plan goes out the window when I'm sick. My recent food poisoning was a testament to that!)

Good on ya!  I hope you feel better soon.  Colds suck, even if they're fairly minor illnesses in the scheme of things.

Best wishes!  :)

Good for you!  I totally get it, but you didn't act on impulse, you figured out the craving and had plans in place to take care of it.  After all, your surgery day was the beginning of doing things differently!  You are my hero!  I sure hope you feel better soon!

I woke up yesterday with my first cold since my surgery in October. I am surprised I survived this winter without getting sick yet.

Thankfully, I typically don't feel like eating when I am sick, but we will see how today goes since yesterday was fairly mild. Today I feel like hell, though :(

Man, the weather is finally starting to get reasonable, and because it's Spring Break next week I don't go back to wor****il the 24th. I do have to calculate my students mid-term grades and have them entered by tomorrow at midnight, and I just don't want to do anything right now. I hope this cold doesn't last too long.
