Ponderings on Excess Skin

That's where I want to be - the loose skin is a sigh of everything I've accomplished and I want to embrace that success!

I think I'm close, but sometimes my brain is a jerk.

I'm down 67 lbs now and have recently started becoming a little self conscious about certain areas of my body. But, I'm becoming more confident and secure about others. As humans, we are our own biggest critics and we'll always have something we're not happy about.

I'm also having issues with the same areas: belly skin, arm wings, inner thighs. My breasts aren't fabulous, but then again they've never been before LOL. I went bathing suit shopping a few days this past week so there was a lot of staring in the mirror and judging. I decided my inner thighs bothered me most, and found a pair of GREAT black swim shorts at Target. Since they will match a lot of different things, I bought a few tops to mix and match. I found a halter top that really makes the girls look good, so that was a nice compromise for me.

I think it's just going to take time to appreciate our new shapes. I think my arms are still huge, but yesterday my sister remarked at how tiny they were. Some days are tougher than others, so I make sure to take the time and try to love myself wholly and completely. Easier said than done, I know! We are works in progress.

I weigh 251 lbs and I used to weigh 150 lbs.  I remember when I weighed 150 and I always thought I could lose 5 or 10 more lbs.  I hated my stomach pouch when I sat down.  I look back and thought why wasn't I happy because I should've been.

Works in progress indeed.  And we should be so proud of ourselves for doing that work! :D

I sat in a lecture with a plastic surgeon for an hour explaining skin removal surgery. That made up my mind real quick. I will deal with the skin issue in the gym and just accept myself. I honestly don't think I could handle the surgery.

Heh, I have no idea how I'll feel when I get there, but I still have 133 pounds to lose and I want to be at goal for 18-24 months before considering plastics.  And, of course, the price might be prohibitive and who knows if I'll want to go through surgery again!

I have all kinds of excess skin, Gwen but I am not as bothered by it as I thought I would be. I would like to get the ladies tacked back up, but the batwings don't bother me. I think it boils down to each of us and what we are happy with. I think it is A-Okay and healthy to be happy with ourselves as is-a novelty for many of us-and equally okay to see something and decide to have plastics, get them done, and feel great.

So far I'm not so much bothered by it, as I feel like I should be bothered by it.  Does that make sense?  Like "oh, everyone else hates loose skin, so I should too!"  But the replies to this thread have been SUPER helpful for me.  I appreciate it!

I wish I could love my body sags and wrinkles and all.  In clothes I am in love.  But when I am bending over and see all of it in its worse light it is a reminder of lots of negative in my life.  I feel like I have come so far and plastics is going to be a big step in leaving a lot of it behind me.
