Awesome article!!

I also thought I wouldn't do plastics that it was superficial and vain

but now that I'm 90lbs down and have a huge hanging flap of disgustingness

i am reevaluating doing plastics...I lift up this flap of flab on a daily basis and I can see

what I would look like with it gone...and don't  get me started on the boobage..OY!

Don't I deserve  to look the best I can look? But I'm scared ****less of the surgery..

I feel like god will punish me for my vanity..

(sorry that thinking is how I was raised, and VERY hard to break)

my surgeon doesn't want me to proceed for at least 6 months and of course I won't

maybe in 6 months I'll get my consult and really start to mull it over..

I actually don't think it's truly vanity. I think true vanity is when you change your nose from one shape to another even though both shapes work perfectly fine but you just like the look of the second shape better.

I think the kind of PS that most of us do is more reconstructive in nature. Our skin certainly isn't working "perfectly fine" -- it flaps and gets in the way of buying well fitting clothes at best -- even if we can still get about our daily business.

I think of it as a quality of life issue. We're not as bad off as a burn victim who is heavily scarred in terms of how badly damaged our skin is but our skin is damaged and having it taken off will improve the quality of our lives. How much is going to vary and whether or not we think it's worth is going to vary but I think quality of life is important and all too often people will dismiss it especially when it's someone else's quality of life. (Like all those people who accuse us of getting WLS for "vanity" if we aren't on death's door when we get it.)
