At a recent support group meeting, my surgeon said that about 80 % of WLS patients are women. I'd be willing to bet there is a further 80-20 breakdown on OH, so you end up with very few men. I can probably count about a dozen who post regularly since I've been here.
While you are on a long term calorie deficit, you will lose some muscle. It's totally unavoidable. You can minimize the amount of muscle lost by resistance training though. Find a good program and lift heavy.
The good news is, the morbidly obese have a lot of extra muscle to begin with, just from hauling ourselves around. Do what you can to minimize the loss, and you'll be ok.

I think two things matter most for how quick the weight comes off. First, the more excess weight you have to lose, the quicker the loss CAN be. But getting it off depends on how well you stick to a good plan. Gotta work the plan.
It also depends on how much you lose preop. Some gain a bunch preop, so it naturally comes off quicker, but only for a month or so.
