So, I had my surgery September 10th! Exactly a week ago (well, it was in the afternoon/evening so later today it will be exact...)! I feel great! I definitely need to work on getting my protein in which is so hard for me because I hate those horrible shakes (texture issue for me) and when I mix the unjury unflavored with anything, I can still taste it.

Anyone have suggestions??? I have real texture issues so I'm open to all suggestions and I'll weed through what I think I can handle to try!

On a happy note, I weighed myself now at 1 week post op and I'm down 21.5 pounds since surgery! (Yay me! even though I know a good bit of that is probably water weight.)

Water weighs 8.33lbs per gallon. Water weight is weight too. I'd definitely take it.

Are you able to mix protein powder with more than the recommended amount of liquid for a thinner shake?  Or even water?  My main powder is double rich chocolate and I find it to make a pretty thin shake - it's maybe the consistency of thin chocolate milk.

Try the Premier ready-to-drink protein drinks. A lot of people (including myself) find them one of the more palatable options. You can buy them at Costco and Walmarts, I believe. I drink a chocolate Premier for breakfast every day.

The protein thing is difficult and critical. Best of luck finding something that works for you!

I drink the Premier Protein shakes too.  The texture isn't too bad, just like drinking milk, maybe a bit thicker.  I think the after taste is horrible, but so far it has been the best option for me on the go.  Otherwise, I drink ViSalus protein shakes.  ViSalus is one of the fad diets I tried before surgery...I lost 50 lbs and gained back 40...but their protein mix tastes pretty good and it is a "neutral" flavor (cream) so you can mix it with all kinds of stuff and make different flavored shakes.  It has 12 grams of protein so when I mix it with a cup of skim milk it is 20 grams per shake.  I usually use a bit of sugar free fat free pudding mix and maybe something else.  For example, butterscotch pudding and some peanut butter tastes like a Butterfinger candy bar.  It also helps with my sweet tooth.  When I'm more convinced I can tolerate it, I'm going to try some frozen fruit too.

Omg 21.5 pounds that is truly amazing. Glad you are feeling great. I have my surgery this winter so I hope I can do as well as you have. Thanks for the post and good luck.

One thing I like is mixing the protein powder with unflavored Greek yogurt and add a little artificial sweetener or flavored syrups.  The texture is kind of like cake batter.  I like it.  I also would mix protein powder into chicken broth.  You have to watch the temp because the protein will clump if its too hot.  I'm not sure what to do about the flavor.  the flavor of the plain protein didn't bother me.

good luck.  You'll figure out something that works!

I like the EAS Carb Advantage shakes - but I am pre-surgery and some post-op in my support group say they are "too thick" for them.  But they don't have that super sweet aftertaste that I get with the Premier Protein (which are thinner).  I just had their dark chocolate for the first time this week and it was great!

I also found a lemonade protein powder - and now I can't remember the brand name - so it is just like water texture.
