My Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina excludes any kind of treatment for weight loss, so I went to Mexico. Procedure was $8,700 plus about $600 in airfare for me and the hubby.  I hope my insurance carrier appreciates all the money I just saved them in obesity related health problems.

I had awesome insurance (Harvard Pilgrim) I paid $125 in co-pays for appointments, and that was it!  The hospital billed $48,000, the insurance company paid $28,000.. my balance due $0 .   My employer changed our insurance this October to BCBS, so i am glad i had it done in August when i still had Harvard Pilgrim :)

I have Feral BCBS I hope it's the same. That is AWSOME!! I met my deductible for the year so I don't have to pay that only 15% of surgery costs.

My total out of pocket cost was $5,000 - that was my deductible for all the doctor visits, tests and surgery. My insurance company got bills for about $25,000 from the hospital and surgeon.

My insurance covered my vsg, and I had already met my deductible for the year because of a previous surgery. I had to pay about $700 up front but was reimbursed most of that, and then got a check from my hospital indemnity insurance. Total cost about $20,000 and my cost was $0. In fact, I think after the extra insurance check I came out ahead.
