Buying new clothes ( I don't like how they look)

So I've lost 49 pounds in total since the start of this journey.  My pants are all really baggy.  I fit in a smaller size, but I don't like how they look - I think they make me look fatter and I'd rather just stick with my old big pants until I'm even smaller.

Hm.

Just because they're a smaller size doesn't mean they'll be a flattering style! When we're bigger, we have to settle for "anything that fits," but as you lose weight there are more options.

Do you have any good thrift stores or consignment shops nearby? They have WAY more variety than the mall, and you can try on lots of styles to find something that's comfortable and fits well. Way cheaper than the mall, too, which is nice when you're getting a new wardrobe several times over during the post-op journey.

I haven't found a thrift store with my size...I'm still firmly in plus sizes.  I hope it gets easier as I go.  And, I'll look for some better thrift shops that might carry my size, that's a good idea.

Do you have a Ross or TJ Maxx or Marshalls near you?  They carry plus sizes at discounted prices.  I bought a lot of transitional clothes from them.  Unfortunately, you have to try on EVERYTHING because women's sizes are ridiculously varied.

I may get hammered for this comment but, you are sounding like you are looking for an excuse to stay in your larger body.  You made quite a commitment when you had surgery.  I think you just need to find a style that works with the body you have and yes the thrift stores can be a great inexpensive closet filler until you get to goal.  It will get better and you maybe in your eyes you're not comfortable with how you look but someone else could see a whole different person and love it.  I hope your mind catches up with your weight loss and you find a style you are happy with.

Wishing you the best.

I definitely think there is a mental part of what is going on with me which you accurately picked up on, I hope my mind catches up too.  I think I'm just not happy with how I look, even as I think I'm looking better.

I don't think I'm looking for an excuse to stay in my larger body...but the observation will make me aware that something I said sounded like that, so its great to be aware of.

Thanks,

Tara

It is challenging to find YOUR style. Try lots of different ones and you might be surprised at how awesome you look in those smaller sizes. I would go into the stores at least every couple of weeks and just try things on and most of the time I did not buy a thing. Goodwill shopping is amazing. I have bought 4 jackets this year with the tags still on them. Just get ready to spend a while sorting rummaging and trying things on. If they don't fit right now or they are snug by the time you clean them they usually do fit. You are going to start having fun doing this!

Things will all work out....you'll find that outfit one day that will be one of those..."Damn I Look Good" deals and then it will be on.  Everything will come together.

You've done great with the weight loss and you will do great with the style soon too.

Good luck to you!!!

This was a great post.  I still wear my chubby pants to work and I'm down to a size 14 now.  (My pants are 22/24).  I just don't want to shop.  So, I don't.  But after reading your post, I think its time.  Thank you!!!
