Imitation crabmeat- so disappointing and why you should track.

Bought a big ol' container of imitation crab meat at Sams yesterday assuming the nutrition profile would be solid given the seafood like genre. Nope. Loaded with sugar and carbs, and doesn't meet my ratio of 1 gram of protein to 10 calories. Argghh. Had I taken a moment to look this up on MFP, I would have left it there. Just another reason why tracking is so important. Even 4.5 years out I am still tripping up on assumptions!

Good catch!  That's good to know too for ordering out- I might have chosen a salad topped with imitation crab over other things that might actually be healthier!

"imitation" in the name of anything is usually a dead give away.

Part of my faulty assump;tion was based on someone once telling me that it was just pollack sort of repackaged into a little different format so to speak. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Imitation crab meat IS primarily pollock but yeah...the rest of the crap they add into it just makes it worthless.

they often use a variety of fish along with the pollock. I like to know what I am eating.

Yes. Pollock is typically the main ingredient. And hey, don't we all?

Tricky though because it's actually made of pollock - which is good and low-carb but yeah...all those fillers. Ick.

Yup - loaded with sugar :( So easy to make assumptions about protein sources. I have to read every package at Costco too - things can be very deceiving!
