Hi Shelly,

i kmow now this is an old post but hoped you could provide some insight. My ferritin came back at 10 but hemoglobin and hemocrit are normal, were yours also normal with low ferritin? And was the one time treatment enough to get things back in range or is it still something you struggle with?

Thanks so much!

Hemoglobin and hematocrit are often normal with low ferritin -- at first. But ferritin is your iron reserves, and if its depleted, you will feel tired, at best, and in serious danger if those reserves are suddenly needed.

Low ferritin is common post WLS. Iron infusions can help for several months to several years. But if you aren't absorbing iron orally, it's likely you'll need another infusion, eventually.

Your ferritin is dangerously low.  You will never be able to bring it up with oral supplements.  Run, don't walk, to your nearest Hematologist!!!! My PCP orders iron infusions when my ferritin gets below 50!  You will feel so much better after infusions.
