Two weeks ago I posted about my kidney problems. I was pretty worried. I had gone to the hospital thinking I might have appendicitis. It ended up being a ruptured ovarian cyst but they discovered cysts on my kidneys and mentioned polycystic kidney disease. I went to a kidney specialist and discovered that I have 5 cysts on one kidney and 7 on the other. That is a lot for someone my age with no family history. But, the doctor doesn't seem concerned because my kidney function and kidney size are both normal. Yay! I have to go back every 6 months for a check up.

Then I went to Vegas with my husband and our employee and his wife for a convention. We ate at a buffet every day. It was absolute torture. The last day I had to excuse myself and go cry in the bathroom. I'm 2.25 years post op, but I couldn't handle that. Next time we won't go to buffets. The following week I went to a science school in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with my student. We had good healthy meals, lots of protein, no snacks and lots of physical activity. That was a great follow up to Vegas.

Now I'm ready to focus on the holidays, another form of torture for me. I love to eat, so it is a daily struggle.

Thanks for listening. I appreciate the support of the group here.

I am actually looking forward to the holidays. I make an almost sf pumpkin pie that no one can tell the difference. Plus ham with brown sugar Splenda and pineapple. and broccoli casserole!!

For all the get togethers, we usually have a meat and cheese tray, and a veggie tray. so I know I can nibble with the best of them, without  anyone realizing oh she's the one who had surgery... Silk makes a pretty good eggnog substitute I sprinkle nutmeg on. Or sf hot chocolate :)

dont dread the holidays, make them food acceptable and go enjoy the people in your life :) that's what the holidays are really about.
