Topic: RE: More out of breath since surgery?

I think it's fairly common.  After my surgery I had to do respiratory therapy with one of those little simple plastic contractions.  That really helped me breath better.

Topic: RE: Anyone else with weight regain after VSG?

This happened to me.  I was sleeved in September of 2007 and weighed 298.  I lost 148lbs initially.  Then my body settled at a weight of 145-150.  I maintained the weightloss until 2013.  I was diagnosed with PTSD, lost the carrer of my dreams....a career that I was very good at.  But over time, by suppressing feelings and issues I was dealing with on the job, I cracked.  I would go check on my 5 year old at night and she looked dead to me.  It didn't matter that I was checking her breathing, in my mind she looked dead.  So I began to work crime scene around her while she was asleep.  I've been in counseling since 2009.  The weight gain started because I stopped taking care of myself.  I stopped lifting weights, doing hot yoga and the elliptical.  I stopped thinking about what I ate and began to eat fast food and everything else with my family(my husband and daughter have a freakishly high metabolism). By the time I started feeling better mentally, I had gained back up to 220.  This made me spiral into a deep depression, instead of giving me the motivation to change.

I woke up one day and weighed 240.  I made an appointment with my bariatric surgeon and he told me my stomach had stretched out a little bit and I hada hiatal hernia.  He said he would do a gastric plication to make my stomach smaller while he fixed the hernia.  I went on the liquid diet on December 21, 2013.  Had surgery on the 28th.  I had a misstep in the first 3 weeks but since then have been diligent about my program.  In all honesty I do not feel the revision has caused me to have slow but steady weight loss. I believe it was getting back on program. Detoxing from carbs and doing protein first.  Getting in all the water needed.  I finally started exercising on the elliptical again.  I've lost 40lbs.  The weight does not come off near as fast with the plication revision.  But I'm happy with the habits I have gotten back.  That is key.  I feel confident I will get back down to 145.  It's just going to take a while.

I just hope this experience I've had helps someone know you have to always be diligent about your eating and exercise plan.

Topic: RE: Obsession

I appreciate the responses.  I understand what Tracy and others are saying about the purpose isto get healthy and the first few months does take near obsession to relearn how to eat.  This is my second go round with revision surgery.  I lost and maintained a 148lb weight loss from VSG for 6 years.  I did go to the anorexic side and camelback to some sort of middle ground with healthy eating.  I gained a bit more weight than I was comfortable with after I went through the eating disorder clinic.  I was able to get that off and maintain a weight I was happy with.  Floor fell out from under me in late 2012.  I started regain around feb '14.  The weight came on fast and furious and I was too mentally broken to even notice.  I've mostly worked through one of the most traumatic event of my life, thus far, and I opted to have pliation to have my sleeve made smaller after a little stretching.  I had this done when having a hernia repaired.

I fell into the eating regime relatively easy.  I didn't have the learning curve that newbies have of getting sick from eating too fast, etc.  I do track my food but I use daily plate.  I understand why I have the disordered eating issue and I go to an eating disorder therapist. The original intent of my post was to see if others felt they have this issue and do they identify it as unhealthy.  There are several "vets" on here that lots of people claim to aspire to be like that remind me of myself when I was in the middle of fighting the anorexia.  Obsessed with each little pound, though they are at low end of their goal weight.  Eating very little and claiming to be satisfied years out with the 600calories.  It's unrealistic for majority of people to believe that at several years out you are still just as satisfied as when you are originally sleeved.

So after all this rambling, I was attempting to find others with this same struggle as opposed to pretending it is ok to obsess about every little thing.

Hi all, I'm the idiot that ate a piece of pizza at like 2 weeks out.  Well since that horrible debacle I've buckled down and have not had any ridiculous irresponsible stupid episodes like that since.  My question is how does everyone balance learning a healthy relationship with food vs. becoming super obsessed with everything you put in your mouth?  I want to get to goal as quick as possible(who doesn't) but I find that I am eating as little as humanly possible and then trying to work off all the calories I have consumed for the day.

I am seeing a therapist, have been for a long time.  So I am working on these issues on my own.  I'm just curious how everyone balances eating healthy instead of turning your obese eating habits into semi anorexic eating habits.

I would hope as a host you wouldn't feel like pushing food on people or concerning yourself with what they ate and didn't eat.  When I host events I don't expect compliments nor do I check to see everyone is eating.  I find this behavior very rude and narrsosictic.

Well I haven't done an update in a while.  When I had surgery I really struggled with everything.  I think I was mad that I had to have a revision and that after 6 years in maintenance I gained 80lbs.  It's been a process but I've forgiven myself and though I'm not losing at a rapid pace, I'm down 40lbs in 12 weeks.  I've been tracking and have been extremely compliant with under eating my sleeve.  I still have to use protein shakes to hit my numbers but I'm ok with this.  I starred exercising last week, finally!  It just took that long to forgive myself for falling way off the wagon.  So I hit 5 days in a row and feel great.  It's a process and mine hasn't been smooth like it was the first time around, but I'm determined and commited to getting back into my skinny clothes and being healthy again.

I don't think it's anyone's business as to why I'm eating or not.  I don't monitor other peoples food intake so they should mind their own business when it comes to what I eat.  So I just say I don't feel like eating or that nothing looks appetizing.

When I crave popcorn, and I DO, i eat half a bag of the 100 cal94%fat free kind.  I know it's a slider, but I'm ok with the minimum calories and it doesn't throw me into a carb spin.

I don't understand why not eating is such a big deal to everyone.  Tell them your not hungry.  Or if you just ate at home that you ate at home.  People do not deserve an explanation on your eating habits.  It would be like one of us going up to someone with their plate piled high and sayin, "Are you going to eat all that?"

A tummy tuck is a skin removal.  I had a full body lift to get all excess skin and a thigh lift for $15,000.  I live in the Dallas area.  I put a large down payment down and financed the rest through a personal loan at my bank .  Interest rates were better than Care Credit.

So I'll be three months out from surgery on the 28th.  I have lost 34 lbs.  I had  80-100 to lose before surgery.  My scale is crazy.  I weigh once and it will say 210ish.  I weigh again to seethe accuracy and it will go down to 206.  Plus if I weigh in the afternoon I always weigh less in the afternoon.  I think I hold. Fluid over night.  So I'm stuck in this 4 lb weight range.  I have not gotten the motivation to work out.  I know that is key for me but I have a psychological block to it.  I am working hard on that with my therapist.  Do y'all think I need a new scale?  If so what kind seems to be most accurate?  Thanks for the input. Good or bad?

Honestly I didn't clarify the weight loss rate.  He said he could fix it and I could get down to goal weight and I didn't ask anything else.  I did know that it was more likely to be a pliation rather than the removal of more stomach cutting for the bigger risk of leaks and stomach complications.  I just assumed weight loss was going to be like before.  Of course I know exercise will help and the surgeon talked about doing some type of activity/exercise everyday.  I'm just bummed about the slow weight loss
