Cool! Thanks for the tip, Tanya! I will ask about Limbrel when I go in for my appointment.
I think the "new NSAID" might be Celebrex? My PCP mentioned it to me at my last appointment, but said I should check with a bariatric surgeon before trying it. I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks for the update Tanya. The original poster mentioned "coating the stomach", which is not, of course, the same as containing cox-1 and cox-2 inhibitors, which would make it a safer choice
there IS a new NSAID type med that is BOTH a cox-1 and cox-2 inhibitor which is why there is minimal risk for GI side effects. Called Limbrel
The 'new nsaid' won't prevent an ulcer from forming in the 'blind' or remnant stomach. All NSAIDs work systemically, and the potential for ulcers is NOT dependent on direct contact with the stomach. The real risk for RNY patients is the potential for ulcer formation in the remnant stomach, which cannot be visualized with a scope-- thus the higher risk. Anyone who tells you differently does not understand the basic pharmacology of NSAIDs, which, sadly, includes many doctors. The only way we should ever take NSAIDS is under very careful medical supervision, when the benefit far outweighs the risk, and in conjunctions with a proton-pump inhibitor drug, such as Prevacid.
OK, this is not going to help much - but - when I saw my surgeon last month (1 year check-up), I mentioned my horrible menstrual cramps and how much I miss Motrin. He said, "I can give you Tramadol or you can try a new NSAID that coats your stomach to help against ulcers." I blindly just accepted the Tramadol and said I'd call back if it wasn't working. The Tramadol works well enough. I'm kicking myself for not asking what new medication he was offering me. Something to ask your new surgeon??

I read, i think somewhere here, and also my NUT mentioned, that it's a good idea to have one ounce of water for each oz of protein in order to prevent the buildup of stuff that causes kidney stones. Pretty sure someone here did some good research on that. But that number sticks in my head. Also, recently my urologist added cranberry tabs to my med regimen, to protect my kidneys from the protein. Im not to go over the max amt per day.

Hope you are feeling better now. I just logged in and saw this post. Being treated for similar here in CA. My NUT told me to mix specifically Argo Brand cornstarch in a little bit of almond milk before I go to bed (like three oz, max) and it regulates my reactive hpyoglycemia overnight while i sleep. I had been dropping down into the low 20's in the night and feeling really sick all day. Incredibly tired. I don't always feel my lows, so I have been testing after each of my six meals. LOVELY fun. going to UCSF to deal with insulinoma next week. Good luck to you!
Everyone is different. 1200-1500 seems to be the norm from what people post here on OH. Are you in maintenance now? If so, the calories you are eating now is what you need to maintain. I eat around 2000 calories a day to maintain at 7 years out from RNY. I cut back to 1500 a day if I need to lose a few pounds. I figured out what I need by trial and error. I still weigh myself often to stay on track.
I am 49 years old and do a lot of walking, but no other formal exercise. Do not fall into the trap of adding back your exercise calories burned. That rarely works.
White Dove always suggests you take your goal weight and multiply by 10 as a starting point.

I decided to track mine on a typical day. 1900 calories, 80 gms protein. I don't get much excercise other than stairs but I'm maintaining.
