I am back on ready to complete my journey by getting back on track and losing my last 50-60 pounds. I did gain some and now want to complete my journey. I have questions for people out as far as I am. I went to my anniversary date forum and no one is posting there last post was 2013, Anyone have a forum for people almost 10 years out. Just looking for support thanks Kelpower

Thea... Congratulations on your loss and for reaching out for support!

I'm in the same boat.  I am up 20 pounds and not happy with the situation but I've been up 20 before... (Well, ok - 15 give or take.  I generally carry 5-10 pounds of bloat).

Speaking of bloat... You mentioned that this all came on when you were on steroids.  Steroids make EVERYONE puffy until they leave your system completely.  My husband is 6 ft tall - about 150 pounds and he has Ulcerative Colitis.  His doctor puts him on prednisone when he gets a flare and he automatically gains 10 pounds of water weight and looks puffy.  Stay calm!  Give it a few weeks.

It's only 20 pounds... you don't need a revision!  My suggestion for now is to really focus on your water intake - and cut down on the carbs. If you do that - in the next couple of days you'll need bathroom reading material from being there so often and the scale will start moving in a favorable direction.

It's a process - a lifetime ongoing thing we're all going through.  Adjust for the ups and celebrate the downs!

Topic: RE: carb monster xpost

I too have some MAJOR problems with carbs.  I am 7 years out.  I started out at 300 pounds and got down to 158 for my lowest number.  I had been maintaining between 162-166 generally until I had my son.  I only actually gained about 6 pounds in the end after I had my baby - but the exhaustion and the poor food choices made me gain about 20 pounds.  I saw a nutritionist who helped me realize that I just CAN'T eat starches and sugars.  It's my own personal brand of highly addictive drugs.  I went on a low-carb, slighly ketogenic plan and lost the weight in a few months.  Honestly - I can't even do very much fruit - it makes me crave more sugar.  Grains, potatoes etc - Forget it.  I have found myself saying many times "One meal with a baked potato won't hurt me".... In theory no - and potatoes themselves nutritionally aren't bad... It just makes it darn near impossible for me to walk by a cookie an hour later if I've eaten one.

I'm actually in the same boat again right now.  We moved houses, and I've had 2 miscarriages this year.  It's been rough so I've been making poor food choices again and find myself close to being up to near 20 pounds again.  I have been lax with myself over the holidays knowing that if I try to 'be good' during the celebrations I'm setting myself up for failure.

However - I am back on the path of righteousness come this weekend.  I have found that the EASIEST way of breaking my carb cravings is to do a "Egg Fast" ala Jimmy Moore (You can google it).  It does sound like a crash diet and it's true - I do lose about a pound of day while on it but that's really not my focus.  My focus is going gold turkey on the carbs.  I have found that once I have excluded them from my diet for about a week I just don't NEED them anymore, and it makes adhering to a healthier eating plan much easier.

Topic: RE: 13 YEARS AFTER RNY, BAD STOMACH PAIN AND NO HELP FROM DOC

Hi. I was searching about pain following medications. Your symptoms on this post sound VERY similar to mine. I do not smoke, (never have), but started having pain a few times a week right after I take my nightly medications. It's literally only two pills, I make sure to drink plenty with them, and have been on both for over a year now. The pains just started about a month ago, and again, are just a few nights a week. Within the first 2 minutes of swallowing the pills, I get a sharp stabbing pain mid belly, right below my ribs. The pain is bad enough that I can't really do anything but hold/rub/wince my belly, and usually within 20-30 min later the pain is completely gone.

My my gallbladder was removed about a year after my RNY, but it honestly feels similar to the pain associated with the gallbladder attacks.

Tonight i I have experienced this same pain all of a sudden for about two hours without eating or drinking anything. No pills.  What in the world is this pain and how do I find out?

What was your outcome in January?

First of all congratulations on keeping off the weight!! I've been out of band surgery since 2003 and I've put back on 50 lbs but I wish I were thinking and freaking out like you about 30 lbs ago!

I went back to my dr and got a "fill". I had no restriction before then because I had complications 2 yrs ago. I thought after losing 130lbs that even without the working of the band on my stomach I could keep the weight off from what I've learned.

Well I proved that I need my wt loss surgery. I've lost the first 5 lbs of the 50 I need to lose but I'm on my way.

Again I think it's great that you're stopping your self NOW! You can get back on track!

Topic: RE: Carb Question???

It depends.  On your level of activity, what food, plus how sensitive you are to carbs.

Most of the time I need to give up on starchy or sweet carbs . Like the one in grains, most fruits, even beans. They affect my Blood sugar too much, and not only can cause a RH episode in me, but make me really hungry after.. Trigger my carbs cravings.

Carbs from non starchy veggies, some nuts, and some berries are more compatible with my body..

So many of us in the same boat.  I am exactly 35lb gain as well.  Yes, wine has been my downfall.  I will begin to reduce my consumption effective today, hoping to get back to where I was.  I am not so lucky as you, I went from a six 6/8 to a size 12.  I refuse to buy a larger size so, I am going to re-committ and go back to basics.

Good luck to all of us!

hi there,

i also was told by my nut to add back carbs  she recommended good grains.  couscous, barley, buckwheat, quinoua.  they are all carbs but excellent carbs.  plus one serving is 1/4 cup.  i am only 11 months out so i really cannot eat that much yet.

i am a heavy exerciser.  I run 25 to 35 miles a week plus other workouts.

i still like to stay around 50 grams of carbs a day.

RNY the best thing i ever did for myself.

Huh? This magical chemical transformation does not happen. It couldn't be more wrong.

We do not absorb calcium carbonate well at all. No one does, actually, even those who have not had WLS, but it's much worse with us. Calcium carbonate needs a lot of stomach acid to be absorbed, and we just don't  produce nearly enough. For non WLSers calcium carbonate is absorbed a little better with meals, since acid production peaks then, but it just doesn't matter with us.

Taking calcium with Vitamin C makes no difference at all. Vitamin C helps with absorption of iron, not calcium. For every 30mg of iron, you should be taking 200mg of Vitamin C. Don't take your calcium citrate within 2 hours of your iron. The calcium will block iron absorption.

If you like having healthy bones, switch to calcium citrate.
