I am six years out and am in the same boat. I have gained 35 lbs since March. This coincides with a friend of mine opening a wine bar and I swing by to see her 4-5 times a week and drink a glass or two. I drank before but always vodka with water only. I'm going to go alcohol free for 30-45 days and also jumpstart with a week or two of shakes to get back to basics.
I haven't posted on here in quite a while. I just feel like updating, so here I am.
I had RNY in August 2007, so I'm a little over 8 years post-op. When I had my surgery, I weighed approximately 255 pounds. I now weigh approximately 125-130 pounds. (I haven't weighed in a month or so, but my pants fit fine so I figure I still weigh what I did the last time I weighed.) I went from a size 24/26 then to roughly a size 4 now.
The first few years, I followed the "rules" religiously. I think that's what has contributed to my long term success. (I also still refuse to consume sugar/sweets and/or carbonated beverages of any kind.)
I no longer journal my food, but I still try to always eat protein first.
In the last year I've started walking for an hour every day (before then I did no regular exercise what-so-ever). I've fallen off the exercise wagon in the last month, but I'm going to start again soon because I just feel better overall when I'm doing it regularly.
As I already said, I still refuse to ingest any carbonated beverages of any kind and/or any sugar/sweets. Why in the world would I "test the waters" with that garbage when those same tainted waters helped nearly kill me before (and are completely un-necessary for my well-being)?
I have had no complications and have no health problems to report.
I'm taking my vitamins daily (some more than once a day) and life is good.
I guess I'm just dropping by to say: YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU CAN DO IT FOREVER!
Good luck everyone and happy holidays!
Depends on your exercise. I had to introduce carbs because I started running. I stick to sweet potatoes, brown rice, low glycemic pasta. Of course veggies

Had a gastric bypass back in 2008. Wanting to do an endoscopic revision. Does anyone have any information on this? Have you had it done? Was it successful? Thank you
Hi,
This is so weird. I had my RNY surgery 2 months before you in June 2010. I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with the weight maintenance.
I know if there is one thing I followed even now since my surgery is to NEVER eat and drink at the same time. My surgeon after the surgery in 2010 told me to wait 30 to 60 minutes if I needed to have a drink. Same thing goes the other way. If I want to eat something I make sure I have not had anything to drink for at least 30 minutes before I do. Hope this helps.
Basically the refined carbs like bread, pasta, crackers, candy, you get the picture. Pretty much anything you have ever binged on, lol. Just the junk to be clear.
If it comes in it's natural package, like fruits and vegetables, I don't worry about it. But if it's been altered it's probably not a good idea.
I remember being told a long time ago that when they refine things like wheat our body miss the stuff that was removed and needed for us to process the food, thus creating cravings for the stuff that was taken out. This may not be an exact explanation but it makes sense to me.
When I was losing weight I played it pretty strict and didn't experiment with things. I just stuck the the plan I was given. I needed to learn self discipline, which I had none of. After I got close to my goal weight I allowed myself to try different things as long as it was sugar and gluten free. But the time to experiment is after you are where you want to be, if you want to get to goal.

My NUT tells me I should be eating between 80-100 grams of carbs a day. Same amount for protein as well.
I am 58, reached my goal of 138, but planning on losing 3 more pounds to give me wiggle room.
I am curious of those of you who have reached your goal, how many carbs are you aiming for as compared to your protein intake?? I know I need to add my carbs in "slowly" by eating the good carbs , veggies and fruit. Would love to hear from others. Thanks!!
I am 12 year out from Roux en Y. I have gained 40 back, kept off 100. Hate the weight gain. I don't feel full until its way too late. When you say detox off of carbs... do you mean bread rice pasta or do you mean fruit and vegetables as well.?
I find if I go over 1100 it shows on the scale almost immediately. I do have some health factors that limit my exercise a lot. Wish I could do more and allow an occasional treat but I have learned I need to be very diligent. Most days I stay around 900.
