Sorry Miss sweet potato, the entire original post has been changed! To have surgery i***** is different than 2000! I was around many years before I had surgery. If one cared to know how to take care of themselves, there were resources. Yeah, maybe more digging but there was information.

Also there is no malabsorption with the VBG. Many people were left not being able to eat solids or certain foods and learned to upchuck regularly which does not allow you to digest the food so no nutrients hence deficiencies.

I wish the original poster nothing but wellness. But again it is an entirely different post "edited"

Best to you

Great thread to read. I'm almost 4 years out and I regained 30lbs, now have lost 8 of those. I was still within healthy BMI even with regain, but for me it is about the personal responsibility piece, self care, following the guidelines and being in it for the long haul. Its not about what I can get away with eating and still kind of stay slim enough.

To the poster above that wants to write a book (sorry, didn't remember your username), I would love to read one that speaks to the challenges and successes for long term. So much is focused on the first year or two, and that is not a good indicator of what it means to live the rest of your life with an altered digestive system. Maybe an anthology so that many individual voices can share their experiences directly. I would love to contribute my experiences thus far. At this stage, one of the biggest things I realize is that paying it forward to those earlier along the path is one of the ways I can keep my food demons in check.

Hi Jordan,

Welcome back. I have my laparscopic RNY in July of 2004 and have maintained my 100 lb WL. This is not an easy road to travel, but it's the best one I've ever been on and I'd do it again in a heart beat!

Sounds like you are on the right path back. It must be stressful to be away for such an extended time. Hope you get to stay put for awhile so you can really get back into the swing of things.

Kim, please read all my posts in this column.(I did not realize they would all post back to back, been too long since I've been on the site.)....those that do not have insurance and very good doctors will not receive any blood boosters like you describe...just fyi, some day you could need to know these, naturals and alternates to what you are receiving now.

I am 20 years post op..(.a multi procedure that is no longer done as far as I can determine...but was effective..rny meets/ds/colon resection w/removal of large portion...) so I have multi issues for which I use natural means to maintain my health...haven't done too well recently due to long term caregiver for two persons, but that stint is over and now am trying to get back into the swing of things...dh

Z,

You missed the point.., and You did not listen! SHame on you!

.she did follow her instructions! I got the same ones, I just found out a few years ago I had to change the protocols I was given...My surgery was i*****

Everyone who is poor does not qualify for assistance...I have ideas why she doesn't but unsure since we have not met.... anyone who has had a prior surgery and loses insurance is deemed by the insurance brokers as being unworthy of and undesireable...and since our new insurance laws have come into effect those that were able to get insurance have had their premiums skyrocket... and someone without a job, can't pay anyway... and health issues, is a poor risk to be dependable...so no one will give her a chance...to get a job...it's a big visious circle and the way off a crashing train is never easy, but there are ways off!

Yes depression and other factors play into this , but this is not the place to beat someone in the ground , but to lift them up.

Been there done that!dh

Lisa, there is help! You had the same instructions I had and I too have lost all my teeth. I started at 292 1/2, and now am at 180, but on the way back on slow wt loss... stress had prevented me from loosing back down again(another story)

I also have the Iron and stomach issue.. The tooth loss is from the calcium, magnesium, potassium, selenium and zinc loss. I contacted my surgeon who happened to be retired, but answered my mail...he told me to use calcium citrate..in liquid form..I use magnesium 3-4 tablets at least 4 days a week, and I use bone broth to cook with and drink as often as I can to boost my elemental bone needs. The tooth loss is just the first symptom. Bone fractures come next and I too am trying to avoid this one.If you are interested I will give you the recipe for bone broth. I use left overs to make it.

also, you know that further surgery will only increase your adhesions... some people are just prone to them...use coconut oil on external scars...

Iron... three solutions .

.1) eat liver in one- to 2 ounce servings twice a day 5 days a week.. .or 2) use buffalo liver capsules 6 a day is serving listed on bottle, by carlson labs or 3) get a prescription for foltrin, it has the intrinsic factor in it, that is only found in liver...

What is causing your upper abdominal pain? the adhesions or something else in your gut? ... I tend toward gastric irritation and use rabbit tobacco as a tea, and it calms my intestines, reduces the gas, and edema, rebalances the enzymes and I get it free..from the pasture....Ulcers I treat with prevacid 30 mg,( 2- 15 mg) OTC, twice a day for five days, when gut pain wakes me...it is usually related to an ulcer...dh

Yes,

1)try either foltrin one capsule twice a day, it is prescribed...but It is too strong for my stomach, and I did not absorb any other forms of Iron Pills, (all they did was cramp my stomach)I did find ... a natural supplement that works... buffalo liver capsules or calf liver capsules both work well to increase Iron levels.(they are made from grass fed beef/buffalo and are about 60 $ a bottle, but well worth it...Carlson labs is one company that makes them.....It takes me 4-6 a day for 6-8 weeks to see a change when I get lazy and forget to get them in. I have difficulty swallowing large capsules, so just have to kick my own butt to make me take them sometimes..

2). also try some pro and pre-biotics, to replace some lacking enzymes, the broader the range, the better..., will boost your immunity as well....and avoid GMO foods, and artificial sweeteners... they destroy the enzymes and good bacteria in your gut...

3) Use stevia a natural sweetener that is diabetic friendly instead...go natural as much as possible.

Try it for a few days...I did not believe it either til I kept a log, when I added certain foods back my distress increased.

4)Make sure you get your bone minerals up and keep them up, or your teeth will begin to crack and need to be pulled one or two at a time... bone broth can be made from left over bones from chicken,.. if you want the recipe I can give it.

I am 20 years post op (a combination procedure they don't do any more.(.Rny/Ds/bowel resection). hope these help you... later dh

hair loss will stp if you use zinc losenge...you are not absorbing the zinc...the losenge will allow absorbtion sublingual..I take three a week, til my levels are up then one a week...to maintain.. when it starts tasting bad, your levels are up, doesn't take long and hair loss stops quickly...
