Today was the last chance I will have to get things in the house we will need before my Surgery Next Monday.  Since hubby is right behind me the following week we had to do it all so we had enough stock for the both of us. Next weekend is a ME weekend, nails, hair, pedicure

This weekend I cleaned out the cupboards and fridge and got rid of everything we should never eat again.  I restocked with tons of protein powders, protein bullets, Isopure drink, various baby foods, boxed mashed potatoes.  Made sure I did our shopping for after, freezer full of sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, yogurt, sugar free puddings, soup broths.  We both have agreed we won't  try to push regular food before the scheduled time to  get the best out of our new pouches.   Lastly was a trip to Wal-Mart, got the sublingual vitamin B-12, ease Z Tylenol extra strength tabs, Gas- X chewable tabs, chewable vitamins, Tums with Calcium, ice cube trays, a new blender, PJ"s and slippers. I think I covered everything, other than I am not sure what I need to prepare for the hospital stay.  If any of you can give me a idea it would be greatly appreciated.  My Dr said I have to stay 2 nights and go home the 3rd day.

I have appreciated everyones support up to this point and want to thank you all for helping me be prepared. Hugs Brenda & George.

Yeah...Bring $5 with you in case you need to go downstairs to Starbucks to get a black coffee, cause it's not on your liquid tray!!!  LOL  That is the only thing I was missing, so I had to walk to the basement of the hospital (kitchen) to get some...and it was Starbucks!!  No cream or sugar...but black coffee tasted so good, even if it was just a sip.  Made me feel civilized!!!  LOL  Good luck.

I wasn't in the hospital long enough to need much of anything. The ony thing that would have been nice was a backscratcher to extend my reach. Gina

Some docs say no caffeine for a period of time - mine was 30 days. So maybe a decaf, black coffee...

Mine says no caffine as well, i am not addicted to the coffee taste so i should be ok. Hey June any comments on the Tums for me cause my Dr office states to use them for the first 3 months for the calcium.   Do they make chewable calcium? I want to be prepared as possible.

Tums has Calcium Carbonate which we absorb nearly zero of. Calcium carbonate requires a big vat of stomach acid to absorb and we don't have that anymore. That's why calcium citrate is required for us. I'm at a total loss why some docs recommend Tums for calcium supplementation

There are several calcium citrate options that do not involve swallowing pills.

1) UpCal-D is a powdered form and you add a small (it really is small) scoop to your drinks or yogurt, etc. Or it comes in handy little packets that I stick in my purse and dump in my mouth to consume. It's slightly sweet tasting but VERY easy to get in. If you PM me your address, I'll send you a few samples. I purchase from vitalady but I know there are other sources as well.

2) Bariatric Advantage Lozenges - I like the Chocolate or Cinnamon flavors. I got them off www.bariatriceating.com

3) Building Blocks Chewables - I like the Chocolate flavor (a lot like the Bariatric Advantage but not as gritty). Again, I got them off www.bariatriceating.com

4) There was a liquid one that I found at Longs that I used for about the 1st month. I don't remember the name of it, but it wasn't bad - just not convenient for taking at work or on the road.

Hope this helps!

No way - it's only a week away??!!  I feel like we were both just hoping for insurance approval yesterday!!  :) BUT - Tums has the wrong the wrong kind of calcium, I think.  RNYers need citrate not carbonate because carbonate is absorbed with the help of stomach acids and you won't have any acids in your pouch so it won't be very effective!  The carbonate can also cause RNYers to get kidney stones, so don't chew those things!!
