Bad day/week
Hi PC,
I'm sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable. I just have to give you this to consider: the Tricor has potential to cause serious muscle breakdown side-effects. I'm not so sure about joint pain but I can tell you from sorry experince in taking Zocor (a statin drug) that myalgic (muscle) pain and joint pain go together. I was on Zocor and had gotten to the point of being unable to form a fist, unable to walk upright and unable to do a flight of stairs. I developed some bizarre neurological symptoms and a few wrong reflexes. My doc sent me to a neurologist who took one look, took me off of the Zocor, ordered blood work and a brain scan. In the end, the blood work showed my muscles were literally being broken down and the by-products were making me ill. So, no more statin drugs. My cardio said I could still take Tricor cuz its a little different. I took it for 1 month and began having musle and joint pain. I stopped it and then the cardio tells me Tricor is a little different but can affect the muscles the same way. Thanks, Doc!
Of course this may have no bearing on your situation. But look into it. When I started on the Zocor I was tested 4 wks later (liver panel) and it came back fine. But 1 year later I was a mess. There is plenty of info on the web and be persistent. Or maybe just take a few months off the drug and see if your symptoms resolve? I began to feel better immediately but it was 3 months after coming off the Zocor before I could make a fist and I still (18 months later) have weakness and a loss of endurance in my legs and arms. Beat of luck to you. Treading
Thanks! I'm trying to remember if my energy levels went back down after I started taking the Tricor. I was a mess my first few months post op with massive vitamin D deficiency and newly discovered 'subclinical" hypothyroid... not to mention an ulcer impeding my caloric consumption. I'm just trying to remember if I was actually getting my energy back after correcting those issues before they put me on Tricor for my congenitally high triglycerides. I'm super sensitive to medications and had very bad side effects from Lipitor, so maybe this is just a slower reaction to the Tricor.
I'll call my PCP and see if I can get in to see her. She's pretty good about listening to me WRT medications and such. She only put me on the Tricor to drop my tri's down from borderline because they weren't coming down fast enough after surgery and she didn't want me to develop pancreatitis. So maybe an increase of thyroid meds and a cessation of Tricor is needed now (because abnormal lipid panels are a symptom of hypothyroid as well!).
You sound like you are right on top of things. I. too, have sensitivities to most meds and, unfortunately, several medical issues. I finally insisted that I stop all medications and added them back one at a time so I could see what was helping and so on. It is just too many factors, otherwise. I take nothing for my cholesterol and tris now except plant stanols and fish oil. But I also don't touch simple carbs. My tris are still a little high but the cardio agrees that it is acceptable given my sensitive system. I do wish you the best of luck in getting this fugured out and feeling better. Treading
First of all let me start out by saying that WLS effects everyone differently. Secondly I hurt so bad after WLS I thought someone had ran me over by a huge 18 wheeler going atleast 150 mph! not that saying any of that is going to be helpful other than knowing there are others who go similar things.....I couldnt even sit in the tub without pain ? musta been all that padding that helped huh? lol I believe it was something to do with the muscle loss.....but yes everything hurt on me even my hair.....hope you find some answers soon..thank goodness things for me did get alot better im over 2 1/2 years out

There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish.........
Man, I hope I don't have to go through this for long! It's so weird because I didn't have much pain after surgery, or anything more than a little ache for a few days in one area that I lost padding in. As far as I can tell, I'm not losing any/much muscle... but maybe I am, it's been a few months since I had the bio-electrical impedence test done. How long were you in pain? Did they ever find out what was causing it?
I think I could handle being tired if I wasn't in pain. I'm pretty sure I'm going through some hormonal issues after surgery because I've always had hormonal issues (PCOS & Metabolic Syndrome). And I've finally figured out that my body is super sensitive to hyperinsulinemia (regardless of carb count) since surgery. Gee whiz! I'm glad I got the surgery, and don't regret it for a minute; I just don't want to be tired and sore all the time anymore
I can't even clean my house properly because I get exhausted and sore so fast (so much for my spring cleaning!). Even standing up and cooking dinner for DH is too much sometimes. I feel like such a slacker!

plickety, sorry to hear your feeling like this. I also take a med for high trigs and with the information in this thread i am going to discuss going off it with my DR. I take Lopid which was prescribed by the WLS Dr not my pcp.
Just reading the side effects i'm going off, hell i'll walk 5000 to 10000 steps a damn day if i have to.
Hope your feeling better soon!
I'm trying to keep my mind away from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I really want this to be something fixable, like a med reaction or the flu. I have enough autoimmune/chronic & incurable "mystery" diseases as it is, I really really really don't want another
Well, at least I got a somewhat reasonable night of sleep last night after taking a vicodin. God, I hate taking narcotic pain killers; but I was in agony.
