Caffeine

Go figure!  lol  All I knew was I was supposed to stop caffeine because it's a diuretic not because it interferes with a lot of vitamin absorption. I knew about not taking it with iron but not the others. Good thing to know!

Well, THAT'S just freakin' wonderful! Sorry, Bren - not meaning to shoot the messenger, but if I get one more "vitamin rule" thrown at me I'm going to flippin' SCREAM!!!!
I've been having such trouble taking pills lately and the NUT said to try to take them with warm liquids instead of cold so my morning cup of coffee is all I have, but now it seems that has been taken too as well..

UGH!

I used to drink a couple of cups a day, not even full ones, but without my day couldn't start.  I had a hard time with being tired after surgery and not having caffeine.  Then I had trouble with getting enough protein and had a heck of a time finding a drink i liked.  I finally found the Achieve One drinks (http://www.low-carb.com/aconecoprbe.html)  but they do have caffeine.   I drink one a day.
One day on a bad day I was at work and made a cup of coffee.  I hated it. It is very odd how my tastes have changed.  I'm starting to not like the Achieve One now and I have two cases left.  I'm going to start trying other drinks again now that my taste buds seem to be changing again.
It is an interesting journey.

I NEVER had coffee or soft drinks pre-surgery, just preferred water. Now I have instant coffee in my morning protein EVERY morning. It takes away the post-surgery sluggish feeling and needless to say with 16 month old triplets I need all the energy I can get. My surgeon never said anything against caffeine and the paperwork didn't either. Is my new "habit" a problem? I have also noticed another benefit in that it helps me stay regular... which can be an issue post-wls... any advise or problem anyone sees?

The only thing my doc ever said to me about coffee was that since it is a diuretic, and since a lot of people sip their coffee through the morning, at some point you might be cutting into your "fluid time" by drinking coffee. In other words, trading time you should be drinking water. That was it though.

i do have a bit of a caffeine addiction. Pre surgery i was like 5cups a day, now i'm doing 2cups a day. Or if i have money i buy those starbucks LIGHT double shot espresso in a can. and drink 1 of those and i'm totally energized for the day.

Its funny cause i wish i wasnt so addicted to coffee in the AM or i wish i liked the chocolate protein where i could mix it in with my coffee

I don't drink coffee but my program told me to watch caffiene since it can be hard on the stomach(pouch). The vitamin issue is good to know though, thanks Bren.

They made us aware that it wasn't the caffine that was the issue with vitamins it was the coffee itself.

Thought i'd share that info with you coffee lovers so you don't become deficent.

My doc had no problem with regular coffee I just could not have any type of coffee until I was three months out. I counted down the flippin' hours until I was three months now I am back to my coffee but only morning and never take vits with coffee. It is a luxury that deserves its own special time just like sex....alone without the TV blaring in the back ground....
