Day 5 and i HATE protein!!!
A couple of things my surgeron requires:
- 1st week clear liquids - no shakes
- 100g of protein daily
At first i was ok with protein supplements. I even went out and tried them until I found a couple that I thought I might like post op. So when i heard that I'd be all liquids for the first week, i thought "No prob!" Well I was wrong!
I hate them all. Bullets, powders, ready-to-drink, isopure, ALL OF THEM! I HATE THEM ALL!
{Whew that felt good to get out}
Since my sense of smell has been increased, i can smell the protein and it makes me gag! Tonight, when i cracked open one of the bullets (to try to get my protein in faster) i gagged again!
I'd LOVE to ditch them but how the heck am i going to get 100g of protein in without supplements once i move to purees / soft food??

I could never do 100 g of protein. I think my tops was 40g my first month. I really like protein coffee and I also loved the Strawberry Kiwi Nectar with frozen strawberrys blended. I would even put some yoguart in to make it smoother. You will get out of this stage rather quickly. It seems so hard right now but you will be just fine.

You're not going to be able to do 100g of protein without supplements at first and it might be pretty impossible for a long time after that. There's nothing wrong with supplements, so I have no idea where these NUTs and docs are coming from about no supplements. I think somebody should give them a pouch and see if they can do it! [snort]
You gotta get your protein in, because you need it! Think of it as medicine if you have to and hold your nose. Try flavorless protein powder mixed in crystal lite or something. I think there are several folks here who do something like that to get it down. VitaLady has several flavorless options on her site. You can order samples and try them out. The bullets were good for me when I was clear liquids but I diluted them a lot in my water and just sipped on it all day.
Find a way, babeee!

If you are managing 100 grams of protein daily you are the AMAZING!
I had to mix up the sweet......................I still don't eat much jello and I am over three years post op. I found the chicken flavored protein from Unjury and used that as my alternative to sweet.
I still use supplements and really can't imagine ever giving up the concentrated protein.

Where do you get the chicken flavored protein? It is just like chicken broth but full of protein. In the clear liquid phase, drink it. Later, I added chicken and veggies to it and made soup with supersized protein grams.
I agree with all of the suggestions you've already received. I couldn't even tolerate crystal light directly after my surgery. Everything I tried tasted like rotten eggs. That did pass and drinking my shakes through a travel cup with a lid or a water bottle helped. Once I was able to tolerate the tastes more I did purchase lots of samples from Vitalady. I found my favorites that I routinely purchase but I still buy samples so I have some variety. MajorMom has me addicted to protein coffee with IDS vanilla-cinnamon.
It will get much better. I just had my year surgiverssary this week and I'm amazed at how fast the time went.
Best of luck.
