Hair intervention!
Okay, I cannot take it anymore. It has been over four months since I've had a trim. I have lost so much hair post -op that my already thinning scalp is getting mighty spotty. I decided to let it grow out a bit so I could try a new style.
I am about to leave to meet with a curly-hair specialist for the first time. Wish me luck! I would post a before and after photo but, silly me, I still have not had time to figure out how to post photos from my Blackberry.
Who do you deal with the hair issue? Has anyone resorted to a wig?
Amy
My hair dresser sent me home with a sample of X Fusion http://www.xfusionhair.info/. It doesn't seem to make my hair thicker, but it does make the skin less obvious. I use it most often when I pull my hair back and I can see scalp through the thinning hair.
I'm not wig ready yet. My hair loss seems to have slowed and I'm getting some regrowth. It's been about 4 months.

. I've also been having it frosted to give it more body. My hairdresser insist that brushing and messaging will stimulate the scalp and make it grow back faster so I'm trying that too. I've been taking mega doses of bioten since before surgery and I can't tell that it has done a thing.

And I LIKEIt like that . Incidentally for me 1/4 of the dose was enough to keep my strands glued in place ... and I didnt always need to put it on either .
I sure felt a LOT better after I used it the first two times and didnt see a small mouse of hair in the drain after I washed my hair lol !
THE PERMANENT FIX :
long term hair loss in bariatric patients is usualy not caused by the shock of surgery but by trace mineral deficiencies , specifically iron and zinc and silicon which is the building block of hair . Thats presuming U get plenty of protein which is ANOTher important building block .
Elemental iron is very difficult to absorb so SCOUR the vitamin shops until U find something else ( I take Ferro Sequels and a few other things - change it up and not all the time occasionally is enough . and an occasional zinc pill . Silicon when i remember . I took biotin from BEFORE i had my surgery ... Im not sure it helps either ... in any case its a B vitamin so Ur body throws out the same day what it doesnt use - it doesnt HURT .
The silicon ( drops and capsules ) made a HUGE difference in the thickness when I started remembering to take it ..and again I only take it occasionally - but my nails dont peel anymore ever and my hair is growing back super thick strong n shiny .
Yes the hair DOES grow back . It takes FOREVER
but it DOES ....
. The good news is when the roots start to grow in thick U look a lot younger .. Ur layered hairdo just looks kind of like a deliberate shag cut .. a young persons crazy shag cut if U will .But at least U dont look like U re balding anymore
. A cute blunt cut did alot to disguise the thinness for me .. until an unfortunate keratin and color combo broke off some strands in the back and I had to get a layered do . GRRRR
But U know what ? hair grows back ! Its all a great adventure ! The ONE thing I WOULDNT get is extensions right now .. the weight will pull Ur real strands out in this vulnerable time I think...
At any rate, this stuff saved my life.

I've also tried the shake on stuff, which looked great if I was indoors. I wanted to cry when I looked at it when I was in the sun.
My hair loss was so bad that I did consider a wig for a while. I seriously considered something like this because I liked the idea of being able to integrate my own hair with it.

Good luck. It really does get better.
I really like my new cut - a curly top just like when I was a kid. The color is a little dark for me. Hopefully, it will fade.
The stylist sold me something called Blinc which is a scalp powder. It does take the shine off the thinning spots of my scalp but I don't like the way it leaves powder on my pillow. I do like the curl cream that she used. I left it in the car but will let you know the name if anyone is interested.
