Steroids....am I going to gain?
I posted this on the main forum too, but I'm curious what you all think as well.
I saw my PCP this morning about my stupid hip. Turns out I have bursitis in both hips. Since I can't take NSAIDS he put me on Prednisone for 10 days. Is it going to cause me to gain? I just made it to Onederland and I don't want to leave! I've tried the cortisone/lidocaine injections and as soon as the lidocaine wears off my hips are killing me again. I am worried about the weight gain on this. I've never been on steroids so I dont' know what to expect. What is it about steroids that make people gain? I know any gain will be temporary, but psychologically it would suck! I don't want to see that 2 in front of my weight again.
I know I need to take it for my hips to get better. Even if I gained 10 pounds as long as my hips feel better I dont' care, but naturally I don't want to gain. On the plus side he said he is proud of my loss so far. We were looking at my chart and in MarchI was 245. I was 198 today. It's hard to believe how much has changed since I've had WLS. I'd do it again tomorrow. I'm a bit worried about the Prednisone effecting how my ulcers are healing as well. My surgeon said it was okay to take it since I'm in so much pain, but I don't want to delay any healing of these pesky ulcers either. What I wouldn't give to take some Motrin! If my insurance would of covered the DS or the VSG I would of gotten one of those. As it stands my insurance only pays for the band and RNY. I didn't feel like the band was for me since I know I would probably try to eat around it. WIth my RNY I can't eat around it since I dump incredibly easily and I am still lucky to get in 3 ounces at 7 weeks out.
Sorry for rambling lol. Anything I need to know about Prednisone before taking it?

Here's the scoop on prednisone: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000091/. I suggest you watch for mood changes, which are pretty common. I also gained weight but lost it as soon as I was off it. Bursitis is a bummer so I hope the predisone helps to decrease your pain. Remember, it is only ten days.

I just posted something similar a few weeks back. I gained "probably not real weight" but found I weighed signifigantly more after being on the drug. I have since lost it all and then some and I think it was mostly water weight that takes time to go away. Your health is most important so I hope you get well soon and one thing I did do was not change my diet in the least. That way at least you can give your body a chance at bouncing right back
