Wow, you have been through the mill.  I am sorry you had such a tough time with your surgeon.  Have you considered getting a new surgeon or even a new PCP that would be more accomodating? Another option since you mentioned you have osteoporosis and your calcium was so low, you might want to see an Endocrinologist.  They specialize in calcium disorders as well as treating osteoporosis.  I know my Endo said when I get to the point of Osteopenia or osteoporosis, she would put me on the new yearly IV Treatment called reclast.  It works really well and might be a great option for you.  It is once a year and takes 20 minutes.

Another advantage to an Endocrinologist is if it is one that is up on weight loss surgery, they might be willing the do the labs you need.  I know mine does all mine.  With all your malabsorbtion, you don't want to put off treating your osteo too long.  It is only going to get worse. You want to stop the  bone loss in its tracks and maybe build some new bone while you can.

I am going to get another PCP.  I have a call in to my former PCP who was great.  She stopped taking my insurance for a while and then when she did start taking it again she wasn't taking new patients.  I called today and she is taking new patients but since I already have a PCP they have to check with the office manager to see if I can go back to her.  I am waiting to hear back.  I trust her completely.  She was taking care of me after my first WLS and is very good.
I was thinking about getting another surgeon but it can be hard to find another surgeon who will take on a patient who had surgery with someone else.  I really don't have a problem with him as a surgeon, just with my nutritional follow up.  I would like to have my PCP do that and keep the surgeon in case I have any complications.  I have already had to have surgery for an incisional hernia and there is always the risk of an intestinal obstruction or internal hernia and I would rather have the surgeon that did the original surgery on me to fix anything since he knows what he did.
Hopefully, if I can get back in to see my former PCP I am going to talk to her about the osteoporosis.  The current PCP didn't seem to think it was a big deal since I was on the borderline and he didn't think I needed treatment but I think I should get a 2nd opinion about that anyway.  I will ask the new PCP about seeing an Endocrinologist.

Thank you, Gina.  I can at least see what I was going against after my first surgery.  My lack of knowledge combined with the inadequate care from my health care givers didn't help.  I just trusted whatever they told me.  I am not much of a person for confrontation so it's hard for me to advocate for myself.  I just don't want to repeat the same mistakes.  The memories of how sick I was just a year ago is too fresh in my mind to go back.
