I am scheduled for surgery on July 1. This afternoon my shoulder pain is kicking like no tomorrow. Not sure what to do. I have taken tylenol but need a better pain fighter than this. Anyone have any suggestions. I am always so scared to take anything. Last week it happened and I took the last pill tylenol/codine I had from my hernia surgery. Kicked it right out. Today I don't have anything but non prescription crap but I am telling you it is killing me. READY TO CRY OR THROW UP don't  know which will happen first. Does anyone know what is safe for us to take that works great??

Can you get hold of your doc and get something through him? He may send you to the ER if he's thinking narcotics. I don't think they can prescribe them without seeing you. Keep us posted.

Danielle,  I have back issues and when it gets really, really bad (and I have no perscription pain meds)  I soak in epsome salt and apply a topical spray called stop pain which is found in pharmacies where the bengay and other pain stuff is.

I hope you feel better.

Before I had my shoulder surgery I used to alternate between ice packs & hot packs 20 mins apart.  I found that the ice packs felt much more relief.

I have sharp pains around my knee area and my foot. My physical therapist sent a script to my surgeon to request a tens unit. It works great for pain. I can't use hot therapy packs because it will inflame the scar tissue surrounding my knee.I use cold packs only.

Homemade cold pack: half bottle rubbing alcohol and water in a ziplock bag. More alcohol than water. It freezes like a slushie. 20 minutes on.20 min off.

ice ice ice...i live with my frozen peas...you can't take anti inflamatories before surgery but they're probably the best...call your surgeon...they should prescribe something...the pain causes tension which will make it worse...  :( hang in there. SEAVIEW
