Greek Yogurt and 6 week post-op doctors appointment

Hi everyone! I LOVE greek yogurt, but it seems pretty new (as far as going mainstream) and when I went on the pre-op liquid diet, I only bought the plain kind to avoid sugar. The plain is gross and tastes like sour cream! So I was wondering, since it is a great source of protein, is it okay to eat the greek yogurt with the fruit on the bottom? I'm afraid of dumping and I'm not sure. My nutritionist was pretty vague...

Also- I had my 6 week post-op appointment with my doctor. I am down 11 pounds since a month ago! And I weighed myself today, OF COURSE i am down 2 more pounds since yesterday lol...but I'm glad to see the scale going down! So close to one-derland!

Side note: I work with kids 1:1, mainly in schools and I saw my former client's teacher (I had to be taken off the case post-op due to his physical aggession) Anyway, I saw his teacher at JcPenneys last night and she was shocked when she saw me :) I hadn't told her I went for WLS, so it made me feel GREAT to know that my weight loss was noticable to people who didn't know! Very Exciting!

Great week overall!
Hope everyone has a good weekend!!!

I haven't tried the kind with the fruit because of all the sugar in it, I'm worried about what I can handle also.  I have been told not to go over 15g of sugar in a sitting.  If it helps you any, I mix lemonade crystal light with the plain and it tastes great.  You may want to experiment a little!

Our NUT tries to keep us at less than 10g sugar in a sitting. So I don't do the fruit on the bottom yogurts. I do the Greek yogurt mixed with things - I use it as sour cream for all intents and purposes. I add it to soup - I use it for a dip. The everyday eating kind I buy is from ALDI and I like their plain yogurt. I do cheat and add some honey occassionally. Nuts too.

Good luck.

I'm not supposed to go above 7g of sugar, except when it comes to milk.

I can't stand the greek yogurt. But the idea of mixing crystal light is a good one. I'll have to try it again cuz it has a lot of good protein in it.

Congrats on your weight loss! And the recognition. I love that part!

I eat the kind with the fruit on the bottom..my plan did not have a specific sugar cut off..although I will tell you the amount of sugar in it (16 grams) is on my threshold...I usually dont finish the whole thing because I can tell its going to be too much so I am pushing it..I have been buying the plain type lately and mixing in several packets of splenda and some sugar free jam..also one time I made my own blueberry topping by cooking up some blueberries with splenda on the stove and put some cornstarch with a little bit of water in to make it thick..put that in the fridge, then I mixed up the splenda with the yogurt and put the blueberry topping on the top..it was so yummy!

I still dump on sugar so I rarely go over 8g in a serving.

I HATE all yogurts!!!!

Try this in Greek Yogurt:  Splenda, SF cheesecake pudding powder,  NSA cherry pie filling (Walmart), and SF cool whip.....YUMMY!!!!!!   It isn't something I  eat every day but I have it about once a week for a special treat.  (haven't had it for awhile but bought cherry pie filling yesterday)

I'm going to try the crystal lite and see if I can stomach the taste.

I get the plain Greek yogurt and add frozen blueberries and Splenda to taste. The stuff that comes with fruit on the bottom has a lot, and I mean A LOT, of sugar in it.  EVIL sugar!

Congrats on the WOWs so far!

My NUT doesn't want me to have more than 17g of surgar at any one time. However, I do eat the Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom.  I love it, and I don't really eat high sugar items the rest of the day.  I figure it evens out at the end.

I had a problem with dumping after surgery, but it's been less of a problem for me over time. (Yes, I know I'm a VSG person, but we can also have issues with dumping--I've read the articles.)  The yogurt didn't cause me a problem if I stuck to about 20 g of sugar per serving.

I eat OIKOS blueberry yogart everyday. Sometimes I mix a cut up strawberry in it too. I love it! My favorite thing in the world by far. Congrats on your progress. I am a teacher too. It is awesome to see peoples jaws drop. I had an unforgetable experience and nearly died with my surgery so I get the we are so glad you are alright comments all the time. Even with all that I went through I would still do it all over again. Good luck and God bless!~
