Just got off the phone with my Hepatologist office and they gave me the clearance for gastric sleeve!!! I have PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis) stage 1 so my husband was worried that the sleeve would cause problems down the road for me as my PBC progressess. So that just me one step closer to getting the surgery. I will be self pay in Overland Park Kansas with KC Bariatric Dr. Kowalski...Cost is $11,999.00

I have PBC also. The road to surgery originally started with a referral letter from my hepatologist five years ago. He recommended weight loss and know that surgery was my best choice.

I abandoned the process when I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Four more years and type two diabetes put me back on track to get surgery. My PCP and surgeon recommended the sleeve, something about access to the biliary tree. I don't know my stage of PBC, but I feel so much healthier. I have my physical next month and will have my liver panels done. I take URSO250 and have been doing well (except for fatigue) with my PBC.

I think you are making a good decision. Please contact me if you have questions.

It's so nice to come across a fellow PBCer! Since it is a rare disease it is always helpful to have someone who understands the ups and downs of having PBC. Glad to see you are doing so well. I decided I wanted to know what stage I was in so I switched from a gastro to a hepa to be staged. Fatigue is a constant companion but I think it will be a bit easier once the weight starts coming off. I checked with the bariatric center and they are think the first week of August they can get me in for surgery. I cannot wait!!!!!

You will do well with surgery. The weight loss doesn't "cure" PBC fatigue, but you will feel more energy getting around. I get up from chairs, in and out of the car, and up and down stairs so much more easily. I think I even sleep better because I can get comfortable in more positions.

Any way you look at it, you will have a wonderful adventure. My focus has been on my health, but I have to admit, buying clothes is now FUN, not torture. I feel like I just blend in, not the fattest in the room any more. It's nice.
