Sunkist Protein Question

Hi, my friend ordered a box of Sunkist Protein for me to try. It says that it has 42 grams of protein in it. It's like a bullet. The question is, can I count the entire 42 grams of protein? The back says it has collagenic protein isolate, whey protein isolate and casein protein isolate. It has no sugar. What do you think?

I would count it for now but when you can go to a drink with more whey protein isolate than any other protein, I would.

Thanks Gina. I am just tired of the milk protein drinks. I really don't like this one either because it's like syrup but I'm trying to fix them up with water, lemon juice or even crystal light. I will keep looking.

It's not a % thing as much as when you start looking for protein shakes, choose one that lists whey protein isolate first in the list of ingredients.

It will get better.  Everything tasted yuck right after surgery.  I used unflavored, none of which REALLY has no flavor, in tea, broth, etc for a while because I couldn't do the sweet stuff.  Now I love it.

Collagen protein is the least absorbable  in our bodies. It is often made from cow hhove and horns and animal body parts that have collagen and nobody WLS'ers or not absorb that form of collagen well.

it is cheaper than whey from milk so manyfacturers use it freq and the average consumer is unaware.

I am a contrarian on this one. People keep saying that collagen protein isn't well absorbed. But meat is a collagen-based protein and we absorb it just fine.

The reason the PDCAAS score is so low is not because collagen proteins aren't absorbed, but because it's not a complete protein. That means the body needs other protein sources so it can combine this one in the body to make complete proteins. So *by itself* it's not a high quality protein. But, if you get protein from other sources, your body can make this into a complete protein and it works just fine.

The main thing is: make sure it's not the only source of protein you get in a day.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still working on how to make it more bearable since I can't stand the syrup taste. I appreciate the insight on the different proteins. I've never known why they say get Whey protein. I'm just sick of the milk stuff. I have been doing this for over 4 months now and I need something new. Right now, Isopure works fine but I want to get this 42 grams to work as well. Even if I can only count 1/2 of the protein, it's better than 10-15 grams that everything else has.
