Okay... I'll bite. Why is potassium such a taboo subject when other micronutrients DSers can be deficient in aren't?

It's the medical thing....our medical types send up flares and start the sirens if it's mentioned. I'm afraid people aren't getting enough but you don't see anyone talking about the safe nutritional amounts. If the subject is brought up, you always see "ask a doc", etc. Most docs don't know nutrition though....

It's because of the dangers of taking too much, I guess.

I was on a prescription supplement when I was on medicine for my HP and I remember at the time how hard it was to find any OTC stuff and all the cautions they gave me.

I was worried about low potassium since I low-carb and had been having some leg cramps.  I decided to drink low-sodium V-8.  it has 1180 mg of potassium, lots more than the supplements I've seen.  No more leg cramps since I started.

***Like***  I'm going to try that too. I've been eating fresh organic salsa today but I have to eat it with nachos. V8 makes much more sense.
